Post Blind help
I have some questions for those of you who have built your own blinds. I really like Poker1 and mudhole's blinds and I plan on building my blind just like one of their's. I'm trying to plan a head and buy all the pieces online so that when I get home in December I can throw together my blind in less than a day.

I have a 1436 jon. Is my boat too narrow for this kind of blind? Will the blind be high enough when I lift it up?

I plan on taking the kids out duck hunting, thats the whole reason for the blind. Can you drop one side lower than the other so that the kids can see out without standing up? Do both sides have to be up for the straps to work correctly? I still want the side at our back up so that we are still covered but I want to drop the side to our front.

Can you use a tarp instead of using codura as a wind blocker? I have a huge camo tarp at the house that I dont use. I plan on using camo netting over the wind blocker and some type of grass over the camo netting. Oh and there is no way in hell I'm using digital pattern codura, I wear the digital crap everyday. I sure wish the would make some ACU's in Max-4 or Mossy Oak Duck Blind!

Thanks for all your help.

I used a tarp for the wind block on mine. You are limited to height by the width between your gunnels only if you want the blind to fit inside the boat. Othersie if you are ok with it hanging over the sides it can be as tall as you want it to be. But you will find that what fits you will probably be to tall for your kids. You can leave 1 flip down so they can see over the side but you have less top cover. I would be a little concerned trying to hunt with multiple folks out of a 14x36. A 18x48 is tight with 3 peeps.

Thanks Poker. I said kids but I really just meant my 7 y/o. I agree with you, I think it might be too dangerous to take both my kids out at the same time in my little boat. I've been trying to tell my wife that so I can get a bigger boat but I think she is ignoring me, go figure.

You got to wear them down. Or convince her how fun the mud runs are and take her along. I'm lucky that mine likes to fish, hunt and ride around in the boat.

Oh you can bet I'm gonna be wearing her down when I get home in December........ :D :D

Another question, about how much 1 inch webbing did you have to buy?

In your pics it looks like you used a cloth tarp. I'm actually talking about a plastic camo tarp. After thinking about it I don't think I will use the plastic tarp. I think it will shine too much.

Its canvas. You can buy the strap/buckles at academy or even walmart. I think they are 6' and I used 4. They are cheap, 2-3.00.

I built a flip-top copy with all 3 poles telescoping...I can adjust each side and the flip top to an infinite number of heights...works good!

Thanks LA for the offer. If I didn't wear the digital pattern everyday I might take you up on the offer.

I think I'm going to go with some sort of telescoping pole system too. This will probably be the only way I'm going to get height out of the blind. It should be easy to make.
