Ok someone fill me in on these olt calls and why they are so forkin high on ebay. I been looking at buying one of the single reed d-2, but there are some variations I'm seeing. The keyway, what is this seems to be on the older calls, and brings a higher price? Then there is green call called the timber, same design, but is it a double reed? I've seen that DJ ILL. has the business now but are they the same calls sound wise? Little help on these calls background before throw away my cash. I know some of the ole timers around here probably have some info. Thanks

They proud of them. I got a couple in my collection but they were not bank breaking when I bought them.

Olt D-2 with the keyhole.....the old ones are made from hard rubber rather than plastic. DJ makes replicas now. He has cut down a couple of mine for me. Many guys used to modify them a couple of different ways.

They are collectors pieces now for the most part but many (including me) use them as their main call.

I been blowin' one for a while now......even back when I had hair. LOL

Olt is an old call.. They started making them just after the turn of the century and continued til just a few years ago.. More D-2's were sold than any other call in history.. There are 3 recognized cut down versions; the LA, the AR and the IL.. Guys have been cutting them down for a long time and some that still do it are pretty well known in the call industry making calls under other names.

Do some research and educate yourself about the call rather than bitching about the price.

Do some research on the calls to learn the order they came out.. Hard rubber keyhole, hard rubber, plastic, plastic keyhole, patent numbers no patent numbers.. The age is all in the material it's made from and what's printed on the sided (or not printed for that matter).

Did a little research and found that the rubber calls were made prior to WWII because of the rationing of rubber, keyway was part of the manufacturing process and was not meant to have any effect on the sound, and the abv. of IL was changed 3 times throughout the life of the calls and can be used to determin the calls age. Also P.S. Olt will begin remanufacturing the d-2 on a lathe setup instead of injected molding this year. Thanks for the help guys.

You can buy calls from DJ that come modified like the old style calls right out of the box if you're interested in seeing the style differences......I've never blown one of them, so not sure how true to form they are.

I have 43 d-2's and 18 cut downs....always looking for more. Rail knows the deal .

got several calls and decoys from the old man and the early sixties.

I've got an old PS Olt D-2, I don't use it at all. Blows really good, I just like my my Duck Commander better.

i got some olts that i've cut down myself...black monsters. they are flat out mean in the timber too. i only cut the new style round holes. if yall need some help with one holler at me. and the mystery man that is being spoke of is probably jim ronquest from rnt calls. he hunts with a cut down. an echo or a cut down olt is the only thing that'll ever touch my lips.

if you cut em down right they sound as good in the woods as any other call...and more effective than most

Glad to hear Olt is back in business. I have a plastic D-2 keyhole. Just need a new reed and cork for it.
