slow rollin with a square chine
which chine (square, round, tapered,or gtb extreme chine) works best for slow rolling through timber?

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
Round would be your worst option for slow traveling speeds. The square will track well as well as the extreme,I cannot give you any info on the tapered

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
I've never driven it, but I would put my money on the extreme chine as far as steering goes. Maybe someone with some first hand experience will post up and confirm or deny.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
which one is faster? jk. im trying to decide on a boat so any info i can get will help me out.
correct me if im wrong... from what i understand square tracks better, is faster, drafts less water, but slides through the turns (which may be fun to do when i just want to play). if a little stick time will get me to the point where i can turn at speed then im ok with that.
is getting out of the throttle, letting the boat bite then getting back into it all there is to making a turn on step with the square chine?
i was leaning toward the extreme hull but got to thinking about how much fun i could have sliding around corners when i wanted to. if i had the extreme hull i guess sliding around corners would be out the window?
slow roll: to idle around in the timber between the trees hunting duck. water hogging: to go over or through everything in your path preferably with beer close by. i havent even looked at go devil boats yet.... guess now is as good a time as any.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
sliding is no fun when you don't want to,I've seen alot of folks up on a bank because of it and I've been on one with a friend running my boat.Ive jumped alot of islands because it was easier to go over them than it was to go around them.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
I believe the GT Extreme is only available in the wider versions.
I ran my GDSD 16x48 tapered - alongside of a square chined GT - both had about the same terminal WOT speeds with 35hp motors - I could turn tighter at full speed - but his square would likely carry more load. The tapered floats almost as shallow as the same width square.
Aways a series of compromises in picking a hull - just shoot for what suits your needs best - whatever they are.
PS - I am considering upsizing to a 16x60 GDSD tapered in January.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
ddm, i wont be in any soft mud flats, ill be in either hard bottom timber or wide open deep water. if i was going to do any playing it would be in the harbor or zipping in and out of creeks off of the river. will the extreme hull slide around any in deep water? i think i read somewhere it may draft just alittle deeper than a the square but didnt do any sliding at all. is that right?
giga, what quick release feature are you talking about on the gd hull. are you refering to the atributes of the tapered chine or is there something else?

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
so the extreme hull doesnt get any wider than 48" ? i thought it would spec out the same as the regular gtb, im looking for something around 54", dont think a 48" gonna do it for me.....
and what about turning a square chine boat on step/ at speed? can anyone describe what it takes, besides saying "gets some stick time youll figure it out" ?

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
Tappered chines are good if you keep da tapperin down to a minimum hunter aka tchreneck has only 1 or 2 inches of tapperin on his boat and it runs really well. Drafts about da same as a square chime and handles turns great at all speeds. I'll try to get him to comment.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
If you know how to "roll" over logs there is no motor adjustment during the process.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
Watch this video... There's a log crossing in I have no problem crossing any logs in my GTR. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnRQ74uXldEFast forward to 3:20 and watch for 30 seconds. All the guys out at the Wallisville Run commented on how I seeked out the trees in the river... I've never had an issue going over or crossing logs.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
With all this rain the river will be full of trees. I'm going Sunday after noon for a run, I know some good log jams north of 10 and along the levee maze. An airboat is only a call away & less than 2 miles

I've seen a GTR's prop touch the ground while on a trailer...
Who knows how long that output shaft is on the GD vs. GT
