Post Heavy metal shot?
My buddy swears by the heavy shot anyone use it with the heavy shot choke tube I was thinking about getting a case and the choke tube if it really helps the pattern. Anyone have any experience with it?

I shot a case last year. It killed birds through a Brileys Mod on my SBE. Never put it to a pattern board.
Just got tired of paying twice as much as federal regular steel. If price was the same I would still be shooting it.

I agree with that and I always used the Cheap winchesters because I figured its mainly up to the shooter to get the kill until I patterned the xpert. Is federal supposed to be better than the Winchester?

I posted something similar to this on another thread.

But i've always been a fan of opening up a shell out of a box of something new. Make sure all the pellets are uniformed and similar in size.
I've never opened an Xpert shell that was all uniformed, where as most Federals I have opened have been very uniform in size.
(Heavy metal was uniform with the steel pellets, but the heavy shot was all different sizes and shapes)

We patterend 3 different guns last year with tons of different choke combos and shells i had left over from the last few season. Overall the most consistent pattern out of any gun or choke combo was Federal shells.
They were more dirty than some of the other shells though.
And at around $120.00 a case they are hard to beat.

I kill all of my birds with experts. I shoot the #3 shot HV...COMP-N-CHOKE FULL for everything...

I never have a problem killing birds dead and they pattern ok. You have to use a wad stripping choke. I always wondered how a wad wizard worked with expert steel

I have patterned different guns with all the top shells and chokes and found that the Hevi-Metal 3 inch #3 shot with the Patternmaster Code Black choke was the best on paper out of all 3 guns that I tried!!Now some of the factory chokes were pretty damn close!Blackclouds shot good but did have some slight flyers with the Blindsides out of all chokes that I tried! You just have to try and shoot what works for you![/quote]

I hear ya and appreciate yalls input I just wanted to get some opinions because for me to "try" it out I gota drop about 400 on the case and choke tube and didn't want to find out later on that federal with a pattern master work just as well.

These are the ones I'm shooting. The Orange box was the same price last year. I like those better.

cant beat blue box federals, when I did my patterning they did the best and kent wasn't far behind. I shot a case of hevi metal last year, not worth the money imo. but if you can find the hevi metal 3'' #6 they kill the shit outa teal, but so do the 5,6 shot federals and kents. if you got the money to spend on a 30$ box of shells go for it!
