I am glad that boat builders still make non-hunt deck models...

so the folks w/ a lower intellect have what they think is best too.

DDM & I don't want everyone to be as intelligent as us. 8-)

If your torn between the two, then go with the sport deck....basically gives you a stepside transom.

sent from the former Republic of Texas.

Post Hunt Deck Advantage?
I've owned sport deck, hunt deck & regular. Like the hunt deck best, just make sure it's an open huntdeck (unlike gator trax).
Also like sport deck better than regular.
But this just my opinion.

Post Re: Hunt Deck Advantage?
It was said that a hunt deck would make a boat float higher/plane better which is not true. If you are comparing two boats with the same overall boat length, one with hunt deck and one without, the hunt deck boat will not float higher or plane better. Think about it. If you cut a few inches out of the top sides of the back end of your boat, and then weld a plate across the top, is your boat going to float or plane any different? No. Besides the additional structure required to hang the engine off of, that is all a hunt deck is. If you are not comparing overall boat length, you are not making an apples to apples comparison. For the sake of argument, if the boat is called a 15' boat but the hunt deck is not included in the length, since the hunt deck is really just a modified top deck it is really a 16.5 (or however long the hunt deck is) and will float a load the same as a 16.5 because that is what it is. Hunt decks are not tacked onto the end of the boat like pods. I suppose you could add one after the fact if you really wanted to but I doubt you would want to weld it flush to the hull bottom for the same reason mud boats have longitudinal stringers. You could make it higher than the hull bottom but it might make the boat transom squat at rest depending on how you made it. Has anyone here added one after the fact?

Some people also seem to think that floatation foam will make your boat float higher. It will not - it only affects the floatation when the boat is partially sunk. The rest of the time it is just added weight.

Personally, I see all these people with the super long front decks, long hunt deck, and the short inside space and I wonder how they carry loads of long brush to brush their blinds. I guess in the marsh the brush does not need to be very long. On Catahoula the floor of our blind is like 6 feet off the ground/water. In the water we hunt ducks in, the hunt deck would not help me get in the boat but it definitely can help the dog get in the boat in deep water if you don't have one of those doggy ladders.
