Post Center console placement.
About to start my cc build and don't have any idea where to put the console. Anybody have any ideas where to put it so the cables will reach? Going to put a gt on it and I have never seen a cc rig to measure off of.

Can anyone tell me a pretty close measurement for a gt motor?

Cable length is determined by where you put the console, not the other way around.

Mount the engine and then measure the length you need. Any hardware/marine store will have Teleflex cables.

They can get Morse cables and Hydrolic hoses in just about any length, put it where you want.

Cable length, wiring harness for ignition/kill switch/trim/clutch & hose for steering all sourced by length for the boat layout. Easiest way to do it is build the boat and then let GT rig it for you when they hang the motor.

Consider how the cables and hoses will be routed to the console in your design, it is a pretty big bundle that does not make sharp turns. Also, make sure your console face is large enough for all the switches, steering & throttle.

Measured from a 2060 GT CC boat 56 in from transom to back of console (where you drive)

Hydraulic steering is the way to go!

They will give you the standard controls (clutch, key, kill, trim, reverse pedal) to their standard length unless you tell them shorter or longer.

Steering and throttle are not included but can be purchased through them if you choose.

Honestly depends on the layout of the boat and how you are going to have your load most of the time. Sometimes it ends up shorter than 56" and sometimes longer.

On my personal boat its a little less.

What size boat? Think about your weight. You don't want it all behind center or you're gonna fight problems with it squating in the back

My steering on my GT is a little different than the stock GT rigging. I have a seastar center cylinder on the motor not set to one side. Big difference is the center is equal turns left and right but the side is not (like 3.5 turns to lock one way and 5 the other). I had a hard time with the side cylinder crossing open bays in the dark and fog holding a straight line. To me it is well worth the extra hundred bucks or so.

Plastic conduit works fine as long as it is big enough. So does a space under the floor without braces in the way and a smooth edge that won't cut hoses or wires.

I would also consider how you are going to use your boat. Having the CC in the center of the boat in line with the engine keeps the weight distribution even, but if you plan on using a scissor blind- it is a PIA to get around while the blind is up. I actually ended up moving my blind slightly to the side with the steering wheel positioned toward the center of the boat, and then off set the weight with gas tanks and batteries on the opposite side.

Food for thought.....

I don't run blinds on my boat but if I did I wouldn't have a cc!

But very good point!!!
