Post Replacement case gasket
Got a buddy that needs to replace the case gasket on his motor. Mud Buddy 35 with some mods. Which gasket is the best to use? Go back with a stock gasket, or use the FelPro? I seem to remember something about a copper gasket, but maybe I'm wrong. According to my wife, it happens often.

I went with the stock gasket and permatex ultra grey rtv silicone gasket sealant.

X2 on the stock with grey permatex - both sides on with the permatex though - engine and sump cover, sandwich the gasket in between...

BTW, if you haven't figured it out yet, the the most important words you can learn are... "Yes, Dear..." ;)

Just a quick question, why even use a gasket if your gonna put permatex on both sides? All a gasket does is fill the imperfection between two mating surfaces of metal, if a sealant is going to be used then should a gasket be used also? I'm about to change out my case gasket on my own motor and I was gonna use the gray permatex by itself, but if there is any clearance issues that require a gasket then I'd like to know.

So Will, I guess your saying that if a sealant is used it should be a very thin layer so as not to affect the thrust load on the cam and crankshaft? This was my original thoughts I just wanted someone else to confirm it.

I would say so, the main engine guru's say no sealant at all if you're using a gasket, just get it surgically clean and locktite the bolts. The gasket is not what causes the fail, it's the bolts becoming loose and the case moving around that makes the gasket fail. The shitty block design is the flaw. It's literally the other side of the block so you can imagine the crank shaft working on it when things become loose.
