Post 12HP Copperhead, 15'6 Gheenoe Classic
With this weekend being our early teal season, I ran my rig all over the place the past 2 days. I hadn't taken my GPS with me since buying the new motor back in August, so I was anxious to find out how fast I was actually going, rather than guess based on other boats' performances. Here's the results:
1 person, light load of gear: 24-25mph
1 person, gear, decoys, etc.: 23-24mph
3 guys, gear, decoys, etc.: 19-20mph

Wow - those are good performance numbers for such a small motor - those
gheenoes are pretty fast hulls with smaller motors for sure too....

A 9.9 merc will almost make one fly....

Actually....I figured out last night that I had a gheenoe high sider 15-4. Motor arrived today. Copperhead rep thought the 12 would be too much for this boat. Looking at it , compared to the boat, I tend to agree. Hmmm... what to do?

The wider width of the classic makes a huge difference, the 13' with a 14hp copperhead can barely get over 18 because it can't plane off. But I can literally drive it over huge sandbars ( around 100' out of water in moist sand) . But it's too slow so the phowler sneak is coming right after this season is over. Driving over land is cool the first dozen times, going fast never gets boring so the 13' has to go

WHAT? I doubt I will ever get tired of driving over land...... that's the whole reason I bought a mud boat. If I wanted to go fast I would have bought a jet boat.
