 How much abuse?
I'm new to the mud motor world got a pro drive 1848 x series 36 pro drive. I'm hunting the red river and the bottom is pretty firm, red clay. How hard can I dig in trying to plane ? I've just been hammering down throwing mud till it gets up. Should I be worried about tree limbs and stumps? So far I'm really digging (no pun intended) the mud motor scene. Any and all driving tips are appreciated. In addition when I bought it it was recommended no grab bar but I'm feeling like I need one.

 Re: How much abuse?
The only thing you can really hurt is the prop. If there is any sand in there it will wear pretty fast.

Watch you skeg also. Had a friend with a pro drive. He would dig down to get on plane and the red river wore down his skeg due to all the sand.

 Re: How much abuse?
I'm familiar with pools 2-5 and those stumps on the red are no joke. Might wanna invest in a floating handle for that prodrive

 Re: How much abuse?
All you gotta worry about is the prop and skeg, these boats are pretty tough you'll probably back off before the boat will.

 Re: How much abuse?
I'd get a grab bar , and as far as I know the red river around here is solid sand, nothing takes off good in that, just find a deeper spot and give it Hell, my boat takes off good in about 10" water with hard bottom with a 3 man load , still not pretty, I've chewed up a prop this week. Damn things coat to much

 How much abuse?
Not sure why you wouldn't want grab bar. When it's dark thirty and my boat is full of gear, cane and hunting partners I drive standing up. Safest way to do it. Only way to really see.

 Re: How much abuse?
We have a lot of sandy bottoms on our lease. You just have to be careful in really "getting on it" when trying to get out. It will grind the blades to nothing. Now, you didn't mention it or not so I'm not sure what year you have. I would contact Bayouboy and get a modded skeg from him OR mod yours. The prodrive skeg sucks in hard bottom and grass. What I have noticed is that I have a little less drag in the hard bottoms which allows me to get up quicker, thus saving the life of the prop. But if at all possible, don't just try and trim down and dig in the sand, or you'll be changing props every week.

 Re: How much abuse?
A good rule of thumb is if the motor won't rim down by itself, you will be eating the prop. You can lock the reverse bar and make it trim down to go, but just remember to unlock it and you'll be eating that prop.
Times 2 on bayouboys skegaroo, makes a huge difference. Get his weed cutter also while you're at it.
