Hammering out the details on my new boat. Cat walks yes or no? Never had a boat with them before. Whats the advantages and disadvantages. Putting them on a 1954.

 Re: cat walks?
Yes. Strengthen your sides and gives you places to store paddle, nav lights, etc. And loose floor space.

 Re: cat walks?
Helps keep from denting in your gunnels if you hit a tree too hard.
I don't really see a disadvantage.

 Re: cat walks?
Got it, Chad from prodigy boats was talking about incorporating a box in one for guns, rods etc. Sounds like a good thing. I was just wonder if they took away from interior space much

Would need to be pretty good sized catwalks to make boxes.

 Re: cat walks?
I was thinking a minimum of 6, 8 should make a nice sized box.

 Re: cat walks?
My prodigy has a small box located near driver. Only couple inches deep so takes up no space. On his fb page the "1754 loaded to the gills" get the catwalks! Mine are 10" and love em with the 45 s in back perfect

 Re: cat walks?
I have 6" walks and sometimes wish they were. 8". If you want to walk comfortably across them go 8". And incorporate at least a small storage box.

 Re: cat walks?
2" of stock smooth gunnel + 2"x3" 3/16 angle = 5" total. Welded 1/2" round bar underneath it, like a cable tray. Fuel lines on the left, wires on the right. Give the floor a clean look, nothing to trip on.

 Re: cat walks?
I personally wouldn't get them. Not enough room for storage or to comfortable sit on--they'd be completely covered by my blind when it's stowed.
Also, up here, they'd get a nice slick coat of ice so they wouldn't be much use for walking.
I have two gun boxes and you can still sit comfortably on them with the blind stowed. One holds 3-4 guns and the other holds mojo poles, grab bar when hunting, stern light pole, decoy retriever, ropes, etc. They're also my benches where passengers ride.
But that's me--it's your custom boat so do what makes sense for you.

 Re: cat walks?
There are diff types of catwalks. The ones we do are not on top the gunnel.......Ours are flush w the front deck etc. As for getting in the way a 8" catwalk is just about eve w where a full floor touches the side of the boat. I have never sold a boat to a customer new or used that didn't like their catwalks. My opinion I they are a must have esp if u fish a lot or hunt out of the boat............ just my .02

 Re: cat walks?
I like mine. I set them down to be even with the front deck. 6x2x3/16's angle.

 Re: cat walks?
After getting them on my 1854 I would not have another boat without them. Prodigy's are large enough to walk on and are done in a way that you loose no room in the boat. Solid enough you can stand three full grown men on them with no flex. We use heavy wall Aluminum tube to gusset them so strength is not an issue. As Chad mentioned, the cat walks themselves come out about flush with where the sides meet the floor. ie: absolutely no loss of room inside the boat.
Flint are you getting the recessed floor? If you haven't decided yet; I would definitely go with that option. Smooth floor with no tripping hazards and when you add hydro turf it's a perfect match. Clean, well thought out and a dream to walk around on in the dark. My 1854 is an open concept as I hate boats that are cluttered with crap all over the floor. Even with only two storage boxes I speced out I have plenty of room to store everything. I got the extended front deck as well and even with the 12 gallon permanent fuel tank under the front deck I can still store stuff under the extension as there is about 24" of usable space left. Re: cat walks?
Thanks bud i really like it, finally got a review up on here. That's not a bad combo for a first mudboat. In all the hull was well priced. I just can't get over how much a good trailer is now.

 Re: cat walks?
I know trailers aren't cheap and I spent more on this hull than I meant to but if I'm spending the money I might as well get what I want not if I can some speed and rpm up
