Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
I'm posting this on here to hopefully help some prospecting GTR owners.
First off,
17x54 Xtreme GT Hull Stock GTR 35L, 35 Hours
Deep Water, Light Load:
2 Blade 27-28 Mph 3 Blade 28-29 Mph
Shallow Water, Light Load
2 Blade 30-31 Mph 3 Blade 32-33 Mph
I have to say that it was pleasant to not have that resonating vibration going up and down the hull that I had with the 2 Blade. The three blade had a ton more grab "less prop slip". So at cruising speed your RPM's are 200-300 less than with the 2 Blade. Driving in the mud there were noticeable differences. One being that the 2 Blade reverses better in mud than the 3 Blade, but the 3 Blade had more grip in forward. In open water though the 3 Blade had more grip in reverse. The torque steer is worse with the 3 Blade. So I had to trim down a little more than normal to let the skeg help with the constant pull. Only problem is that because the 3 Blade grabs more my RPM was really low "3200-3300", lowering the speed by a few MPH. The 3 Blade really performed in shallow water "0"-2" of water the best.
As of right now I still can't decide which one I would rather run. Most likely the 3 Blade simply because of the smoother driving. I will say that not being able to reverse in deep mud is kinda discouraging, its the ability to reverse in deep mud that gets me out of allot of tight spots I've been in here recently.
I swapped the props out and ran them in the same exact conditions within an hour of one another. So the results are pretty accurate as far as speeds go.
Hope this is able to help some of you make a decision to go ahead and get one.

Thanks for the info...hearing quite a few say the tiller torque is worse....I guess there is a trade off to anything

What lower unit was this with. 27"? Reason I ask from what I was told the new lower units which are 30" work better with the 3 blade. Gets a little deeper and don't blow out as quick

Re: Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
I had similar results. About 1 mph faster than the 2 blade. Knocked off about 200 rpms. A lot better in reverse. Gotta air it out to get it to run. Holeshot sucks balls though, and mid range punch. And I didn't find the vibration to be noticably less. I think it's gonna get better once it wears a little, like the 2 blades do, especially coming out of the hole. It's like it jumps up but takes a while to lay over and go. I'm on the fence with it until I put some more time on it. Gonna be a good frogging prop.

Finally some good information comparing the two props. This is good information.

Delta, from the belt housing to the prop nut is 24". I don't know what this makes this as far as shaft length goes. But I know I would do allot better with a longer shaft.
You do have to wait for the prop to catch a little air before It will jump up, which can also be slightly annoying in shallow water where you want to jump up really quick. The 2 Blade jumps up super fast, again, I still don't know which one I prefer yet, haha.

3 Blade has smaller O.D. and narrower blades.

Re: Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
I have my pin in the hole second from the top, I've played with that one and the one right below it, I like it a little higher so I can trim higher when idling through stumps, it helps avoid annoying knocks. It also keeps my engine trimmed a little higher when trailering and don't have to worry about dragging the skeg on the ground when going over a hump, etc. I will say that I loose some ability to dig in thick mud. But I know my limits now.

So one person says its not better in reverse and the other says its better but both claimed to lose rpms but gain speed doesn't add up I doubt very seriously the 2 blade has that much prop slip

Chaz where do you get those pins? My last rig I just used a carriage bolt but I like the looks of that better.

Re: Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
Chaz, thanks for that, that is something I should have thought of.
As far as the prop slip goes, I'm going to say the reason why it feels like it's grabs more is because you have more combined surface area of prop in the water more often with the addition of the third blade.
But hey, i am no hydro engineer. I'm sure Power Tech could give a really nice answer as to why it acts the way it does.

Re: Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
I think those modded motors would do extremely well with this prop. I was going 32-33 mph in shallow water at 3600 RPM, I'm thinking if you have a motor that will turn 3800+ with that prop, you will maybe touch 35 mph on a good day.

Wow, you must have been doing 35+? I'm seeing you have a 1648 Alweld, I'm sure it's quite lighter than mine. I would like to see a video of that thing running honestly, gotta be one hell of a ride.

Re: Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
I already said who's "fukn retarded." I picked up 1 mph and dropped 200 RPMs. In the same exact spot the same direction 5 minutes apart. I don't make bullshit claims, I was just saying what it did. I don't like it because of the loss of holeshot and mid range punch. It might get better as it wears. It backs up better. I didn't run it in mud just deep water. I don't know what the fuck else you want me to say.
And for the record, I wasn't at Fred's. Dipshit. That video was from november. Wasn't no current where I was at. So if you don't know facts, shut the fuck up.

Re: Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
CuppedUp, I can take a screen shot of the GPS next time I'm out in shallow water, but from what I read on here I am also surprised that I was able to bump 33 mph in shallow water. I wasn't calling you out, I was just thinking that your boat would fly being so light with a mod motor.
When I say light load, I'm talking just me, trolling motor, 2 batteries, 9 gallons of gas, and NOTHING else. A slight breeze pushes me off track because I'm so light.
AKA, the only realistic gains I saw were in shallow water, deep water was maybe 1 mph depending on current, wind, etc. I think the major advantage for me personally was the lack of vibration, but then again, I gained a ton of tiller torque, so who knows.

I don't think shallow water speeds should ever be considered. That would help with all the differences in claimed speeds

Re: Actual Comparison of 2 Blade GT vs. 3 Blade GT Props
Tried mine out today and liked it. It seemed yo lift my boat more and definitely carried a load faster. I wouldn't say vibration was noticeably less but the tiller torque was worse. Hole shot seemed better and I was able to run faster at 4200 than when I do at 45-4600.
Ran it on my buddies stock motor 1754 extreme as well and lost 1 mph but gained hole shot and lift. Boat stayed on plane at a lower rpm Due to the prop lifting the boat more.
