Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
yeah i tried one not too long ago, it felt slower but it vibrated too much so i had to take it off, i also tried a hopkins 2 blade and had the same vibration so i stick with my 3 blade and it runs fine for me

Gonna try. Can't hurt with a 15 day return policy. If it acts like yours did I'll make a trip to Baton Rouge and buy a three blade.

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
yeah, as far as props are concerned i would just get the stock 3 blade re-pitched and heavier cup. how old is your motor?

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
I wish these guys would design a SD prop.... http://www.bblades.com/leadingedge/Their longtail prop has a special alloy edge.... And the thread-on hex center is a neat concept too....

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
LaBirdMan,
If you still runnin that semi v - and you and your son are still hunting together - the GDSD 3 blade is the absolute best prop for you - at 3 inches of blade yours has lost 50 percent of it's mud slingin power at take-off and is likely already "blowin out" at WOT - a re-cup won't help - it would need to have blade added back on and so far I have found 2 shops that do a poor job and charge over half what a new one costs - So Coco's trade in rebate is about the best option...
I really like the GD 12x12 2 blade on my light hull with light loads and have seen 33 mph steady out of it with my stock 35 GDSD after polishing and finesse-ing the cup - it costs less too - PM me and I'll hook you up with one for under 200...
But put 600 lbs in the boat and the 3 blade out pulls and outruns the 2 blade - hands down...

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
Gonna give it a whirl. If I don't like what I get I'll return it and try something else. Witrh the angle on a GDSD and the angle on a big inboard mudboat being very close, can't see why a 2 blade won't be good. Only thing is that a blade is out the water. Them mud boats run 2 blades and devistate the mud.

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
Pretty damn impressed with the new prop. Little more vibration than before but not bad. With the 3 blade used to get 25 with me(255) and my son(320). GPSed it Wed night with me (255) my neighbor(250) and friend (170) and 100 lbs of sugar making 25.3. Pretty damn impressive. I'm satisfied.

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
You should have way more speed than that!!!!!
You def. have an issue somewhere. It could very well be your prop. It may need to be re-cupped and/or re-pitched.
What rpm's is your motor turning in the water?

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
I'm not sure what RPM's im turning now due to my tachometer breaking due to me putting a new starter in. I'm currently away from the house for a couple weeks and plan to get one when i get home. But before it broke i was running about 4100 rpms. two years ago when i got my three blade in i was running about 3200 rpms and it gradually got higher and higher and i got slower and slower. This is defiantly more or less a prop issue but when i got it re-cupped it only gained about 7mph at first which is good, but then is slowed back down after two uses. I think I'm going to get the two blade big blade when i get home and give that a whirl.

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
I am all stock. I run a lot in southern Texas where there is a lot of sand which worst than putting a grinder to the prop. So my prop is worn down a good bit. Which would cause my rpm's to rise. at least im almost positive that's the case.
we thought about getting an airboat, but life is just to easy with the GD.

Re: Big Blade on a GDSD
Ya ROBN 1020 I am almost 100% sure right when I put the three blade on (two years ago) i was running 3200-3300. But something might have been wrong with the throttle setting or something. Ill have to check it out. I know i am way past due for a new prop from what i have been hearing on this site and how people change there prop at least once a year. But seeing how you said I should be getting 27-29 really helps and i will take note of that when tuning the motor in. Also its been a while since i cleaned the carb so that could be an issue too. And I need to check the commpression of the motor. So with all this in mind I have a lot of work to do. thanks for all the info it really helps out.
