GTR lower unit grease not coming out
I searched and couldn't find anything, so I figured I'd ask. I took out the screw and pumped a couple pumps and the old grease starting coming out. After a couple more pumps, no grease came out. Gave it another 10 or so pumps and still nothing. I waited a couple minutes and pumped another 5 or so and nothing came out. Its not coming out any of the seals, which is a good thing, but I don't understand how it could get clogged. And yes I made sure the grease gun still had grease in it. Any thoughts?

Re: GTR lower unit grease not coming out
I keep hearing about seals, is it possible with a GT to blow the seals? I've topped mine off many times without removing the screw. My grease has never been off color.

Re: GTR lower unit grease not coming out
I've put about 2 whole cans of grease in there. The old grease is coming out, just very slowly. Turning the prop helped, but it is still very slow. Guess ill get a third can...

Quit playing with that baby gun and get a fullsize one. Them lil minis hardly have any grease in those tubes.

I use a Lincoln as well, but I have battery powered instead of air. Works great IMO..

Re: GTR lower unit grease not coming out
I'm down to my last tube of grease. I have put 5 in there. It's still barely coming out and its a dark greyish in color so I know they still have old grease in there. I never had this problem with my other motor.

And this is why i purge my LU every time i use it.
I honestly don't know. I'll never have this issue because I'm a maintenance freak.

Re: GTR lower unit grease not coming out
No its not common. How many hours you have on that thing? How often do you grease it?

Re: GTR lower unit grease not coming out
The seals fail, some sooner than others. If you shine a flashlight down your belthousing u will see the pile of grease at the bottom i am guessing. Pull the lower unit and replace seal at a minimum, if i recall its like 15 bucks. Be sure to inspect bearing, race etc while u got it apart. Alot will say replace everything while u got the bitch apart, up to u. Belt housing not hard to clean out just messy.

Re: GTR lower unit grease not coming out
Everything was a 2012 on the motor, but the motor had some sort of defect and he got a new one which is why it only has 12 hours on it. The frame and the rest stayed the same. But I talked to him and he said he purged the grease every 15 hours. And no, I'm talking about 5 14oz tubes of grease. That's why I was so skeptical to keep pumping after 2. This is the first time I have purged the grease on a 35 hp, I have only done it on my 25hp, so I figured it might take more... Guess I was wrong. Its definitely in the housing because i see it on the belt because I was turning the prop to help the grease come out of the screw hole. So let's just say there isn't much friction on the belt right now.
