Anyone here have a mud hull that they take out on nice days in the saltwater ? Im near the coast and want a mud hull w/mud motor for duck hunting but also get a cheap outboard and go up the backwaters in the summer.. ive heard the salt may hurt the metal and most saltwater boats are fiberglass for that reason. I obviously dont know what im talking about, so thats why im asking if I was given bad info or if I can use it.

Spray down wit wd40

Plenty of aluminum boats out in the saltwater with no issue. Rinse it and your trailer down with the water hose when you get home, and you won't have an issue. Flush that outboard with water after use (they make earmuffs that hook to a water hose and go over the water intakes on your outboard, then you crank and run it for a few mins and let it flush fresh water through the passages)

Just use the the pizz out of it....

I run saltwater 90 to 100 times a year in my GDSD rig and don't
wash anything - I let the rain do that....

Still going strong....

However - the science nerd in me knows that the battery ground
to an aluminum hull will cause pitting where your boards touch
the necked aluminum if it is wet.... My trailer never touches
water anywhere when I launch and load - just gets close to
water.... Perko battery disconnect will help with that too....

I run saltwater 90% of the time. i buy two cases of corrosion x every year. one case of red cans and one case of green cans. I use the red cans on all my electrical connections like battery terminals, etc... and green can on all my bolts, screws, etc... I wash down with freshwater before i spray with corrosion x. Just run freshwater through outboard every time trust me its a pain but it will pay off in long run. if its a newer motor it should have a water house hook up that u rinse motor without turning engine on. if it is an older motor you will need to get a flush kit from academy or any marine store that goes on lower unit and connects to a water hose this requires you to run the engine flush kit should cost no more than 20 dollars. I also spray blaster lubricant on all my lugnuts on trailer as well as winch, and all bolts. use red corrosion x bottle on all trailer light connections. Corrosion x is expensive but is so worth its weight in gold it has not let me down in the past 3 years. i am speaking from experience use to have all sorts of electrical problems until i started doing this everytime i go out. trouble free now. also it does not hurt to use the heat shrink water proof elctrical connectors this will also help tremendously in saltwater.

i also gator glided the bottom on my new homemade mudboat last month. hoping to avoid the pitting where the hull sits on my trailer bunks. we will see if it works.

I've ran it all I. Saltwater for the past decade (off shore out boards. Flat bottom outboards. Flat bottom long tail and currently pro-drive CC) wash it everytime you pull it out of salt water. Especially your trailer and flush your outboard. The corrosive X is some great stuff (pricy but worth the money). If you don't buy that then at least put WD40 on your electronics and bolts. I also like Kroil Kano AeroKroil 13oz. Aerosol (runs about $23 can) and I use that on everything. Even to clean my guns. I bent a wrench trying to take a prop off and a buddy gave me a can of that. I sprayed it on and let it soak for a day and it came off with ease the next day. I've been sold on it ever since.

I spray it off with fresh water, spray it up and down with WD40 then I spray is again with fresh water. It removes all the salt and gives it a little shine.

My last motors I used corrosion x. Shit was nasty to deal with and left the motor looking like shit. My new ones get wd40 soak gown after washing and drying. Seems like that is the ticket

When ya use wd-40, ya spray everything with it? Or just what touched water?

Everything but any rubber grommets or rubber bushings. Like in a Pro-Drive tiller handle or in the Briggs plastic carb cover fasteners. It will cause the rubber to expand.

I just rinse my boat and motor with fresh water and apply a silicon lube to the electric connections to prevent corrosion. I'm 99% in the salt and have no problems.....

Wd40 is like $15 a gallon. Cheap and it last a long time.
