Post rig em right??
has anyone used this set up and if so howd you like it?? questions are:
1) how tangle free is it?
2) how beat up do your decoys get ?
3) is it that much faster than wrapping around the neck?

and for those of you who don't know

I havent used rig em, but i did it kinda the same. Its 10x's faster on the pick up, and alot fast when setting them out too. Keeps your hands alot drier too. Best thing i've done so far to make my hunting easier

i do the texas rig version and its awesome. i use 6' lines with 4 oz wieghts cuz i hunt up on the lakes some and like to have that extra string if needed. but if your mostly in the marsh you combo should be fine. it takes literally 5 min or less to put out 3 dozen dekes and pick up is just as easy. wish i would have discovered this a long time ago

I made my own and love it. but use green weed wacker line not decoy line and they never get tangled. You have to crimp the line and use alum. crimps the zinc rust out.

Lil advice though, don't do them like rig em' does. The way they have them set up, the decoy is fixed to the line, and the weight slides, w/ the loop being by the weight. Instead, do it reverse. Tie the weight to the line, so it doesnt slide, run the line through the keel, and tie a loop. That way, when your picking up, all you have to do is grab the decoy by the head, tilt it to the side, and grab the loop. Keeps your hands dry, and keeps you from having to mess w/ wet line and muddy/grassy weights while picking up. I keep mine in bundles of 6 or 7 and have a carabiner to keep the loops together. I tie a knot in the line as close to the decoys as possible to keep them from tangling and then tying another not at the top by the loops to keep them together as well.

its the only way to go! i have changed all my decoys to rig em rights and its SOO much easier and faster. i have never had a tangle with them in the 3 years ive been using them. i have a cabela's sled and all i do is throw em in there. i can carry bout 3 doz. deeks in that sled and there all just tossed in there with strings laying everywhere but all ya gotta do is grab a decoy and pull it out and throw! its that easy. and pickin up i just drag the sled behind me and as i walk by i just pick up a decoy and throw it in the sled till im done.

saves much much time and no cold wet hands!

I used the black pvc decoy line and it sucked. They got tangled up way too bad. If you use weed wacker line like Richard said it would be awesome. Think I'm gonna try that next. Other than gettin tangled, I loved it.

Best thing i ever did as for as decoys go.. Make them your self a lot cheaper.. Don't use nothing smaller than 400 mono

I've used the Rig em' right system, and true texas rig system. I like texas rig with monofilament better. if you use the rig em' right with black string, gather all your decoys up and tie a overhand knot right above the decoys. this helps when you're putting them back out.

I use the avery keel grabbers right now. Im gunna try a dozen of the texas style and see how that goes. it looks like it would be easier than wrappin em up. but i could see where they would bang up the paint. il give em shot tho.

Tis is the way to go!!! I have priced out the weights,Mono, and crimps from Academy..And you can buy these already made with a green colored mono from Academy for $14-$18 depending on 4oz or 6oz and how long you want them. Then you just cut the end off with the swivel and run that line through the hole in the keel and make a loop and crimp with new crimp. It is that easy. The weights don't move on the line and the mud cleans off easy due to the tear drop design.I will take some pictures if you want.I just rigged out 18 more last night in about 10 minutes.

Richard Copes, that's exactly how I did my texas rigs..... bought the exact same shit at Academy. by far the cheapest, quickest way.

I did the same as crew and cope last year and the only complaint i have is the heat getting to the line.

Dont tie any nots or loopd in the strang or the summer heat will cause th eline to bend. Hang them up from a rafter or on the wall so the line dosnt kink.

PS dont use chep crimps they wont last a season.

Post Re: rig em right??
I do a variation of a TX rig I guess you could say.

I use Tanglefree brand PVC line (not Avery or Drake or the others--too soft) and cut 4'-6' lengths. Then I crimp either a Tanglefree brand or similar egg shaped weight on one end. I run the other end through the hole in the keel of the decoy and then run the line through one hole on an Avery brand depth adjuster and then tie a single overhand knot at the tip of the line to prevent the depth adjuster from coming off.

I use a Drake stand-up decoy bag. To store the decoys I grab the decoy and pull the weight up to the keel while sliding the depth adjuster down to "lock" the weight at the keel. Then I toss the decoy in the bag and repeat until all 3 dozen decoys are in the bag. To throw out--grab a decoy off of the top and if it seems tangled just give a couple of light tugs and it will come free. Slide depth adjuster to end of line or desired length and pitch it. I use weighted keel decoys so they land upright everytime.

Now I will be the first to admit, the way these decoys look jumbled up in the Drake bag will make you think they are tangled but they are not. A light tug or 2 will free them every time.

Yeah Poker1, We have been doing it with as much as 18' on each decoy this year and it works well. A few small tangles, but still beats the hell out of wrapping line on 3-5 dozen decoys when hunting deep water. And yes, not disturbing the decoy bag helps a lot. This is when it really pays to have the Drake stand-up bag.

I use slot bags for my good decoys. But I bag the others and only transport them twice a year as they stay all season.

I use almost the same as phathead but I crimp the pvc line to the decoy put on 4oz egg sinker then the avery depth adjuster then tie a overhand knot in the bottom end of line leaving about 2 inches of line When pickin up grab the 2 inch peice slide weight and depth adjuster to decoy then put in bag this keeps any excess line at the bottom and not at the surface

I originally bought the rig em right set but the clips broke or to weak cut off all the weights and rigged them this way if putting in decoy bag the loose muddy weights beat the paint off the decoys and get them all muddy

I have been rigging them lack this for a very long time. Long before it came out on the market. We used to use 1.4" cotton rope that we die brown or black with ret die. Drill a bigger hole trough the egg sinker, tie it then run it long ways throu the keel and tie a knot. Grab the knot, decoy slides to the weight, I would bundle a dozen at a time and then tie them all together in a half hitch knot. You would have 12 big loops that you would use to carry them and once to your location you would pull all the knots and decoys would fall and start chunking them out. I do the same thing now but I use the black pvc line with loops tied in the ends. I tried the mono but it kinks when you tie the half hitch.
