 fuel/carb/wtf
ok so last friday i went riding on a run and on the way in i ran out of fuel. never ran it empty before, put my extra gas in the tank. fired back up and got about 500 yds from the launch. trying to figure out wtf the problem is i see my bulbs deflated. fuel tank vent is open and no kinks in the hose so confused on that one. get it to crank back up and take off, get 200 yds from the launch and dies again..crank back up and idled rest of the way.
saturday morning i got up to go work on the camp and bulb is back to normal so figured that was the issue maybe. take off and runs perfect for 20 minutes until almost to the camp and the sob dies..crank back up go a couple hundred yards and dies again. crank up and idle and then dies and wont turn over. got pulled the 200 yds to the camp. before leaving that afternoon i took the filter and bulb out of the line and ran direct to the pump since bulb was deflated yet again. took off and was damn near to the launch and the mfer dies again and barely limps back to the launch.
so im guessing this is a fuel pump of carb issue..i was thinking maybe since i ran the tank empty that i maybe sucked up some trash in there but why is it running perfect for 20 minutes or so at high rpms then out of nowhere acting like its running out of fuel?
this is on a 35 gtr with mikuni

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
you most likely sucked a piece of trash in when ran tank empty, take it apart and clean everything well and slap back together

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
Maybe some trash in the bottom of the tank you sucked up when you ran it dry? Blow out the line, clean out the jets..

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
figured it was trash but it seems like its on a time schedule is what confuses me..get 20 minutes or so and then acts like its out of fuel..figured if trash or air it would be steady or here and there

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
Am I the only one that thinks a collapse bulb would indicate an issue up stream. The fuel pump is apparently working good enough to suck it flat. That to me indicates a blockage in the tanks pick up screen, pick up tube, or in the fuel line itself.

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
Do you has with ethanol? It's been known to eat the lining out if fuel lines. Like bayou boy stated you have a vacuum on the bulb.

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
And when you sat extra gas do you mean another tank or a jerry can in which you fill into your existing tank.

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
Is the fuel tank a plastic one? If so It might be the culprit. I run six gallon fuel tanks in my commfish boats to keep track of the daily use and have had a couple tanks crap out for no reason and have other tanks that keep on keeping on. If push comes to shove try someone else s tanks in the elimination process.

 Re: fuel/carb/wtf
As mentioned the ethanol fuel might be the first blood to your set up. We don't have too many ethanol pumps around where I live however when I travel to fish I have HAD to buy it and usually if I run it all out in a few hours there is no trouble. The trouble begins when one boat sits for a week or so that has the ethanol in the tank and then there is trouble. My Yamahas are trouble free until I unknowingly bought ethanol fuel.
