 Browning Maxus
Bought one of them new Browning Maxus shotguns just at the end of November. The first box are so of shells did fine then the night mare started, it will give the first chambered shot and cycle the next but will not shoot the next two until wacking the "bolt handle". Went back to the dealer and sent it off the wed. before Christmas, still no news from Browning. Just wanted to know if any of you have any info on this $1400 mistake.

 Re: Browning Maxus
Had one since the beginning of hunting season. Did you really, and I mean really clean it when you got it new? All new guns come with packing grease for shelf life. It takes some work to get them completely stripped down. Once you do that, run that bitch dry with one and I mean one-half a drop of oil on the action slide rail. That's it. I've run old rusty shells, mixed with promo dove loads and 3.5 BBB just to see what she'd do. The only time it didn't go boom was when I knocked the magazine cutoff switch forward and didn't know it. 15 mallards toes on the water and I've got a 1125 dollar single shot. Not ruling out manuf. defect, just saying most autos are defective because they aren't stripped clean. My understanding is that Browning wants this gun to work so they are addressing any problems in a timely fashion.

 Re: Browning Maxus
Before putting the thing together I Rem Oiled the whole thing to get the packing sludge off. I'm pretty anal about my stuff (don"t even start slamb/maxxis). I have had many other auto's before and never had this bad of a problem. I've tried diff. loads from 3.5" Steel to 2 3/4" dove loads and its does the same thing from ducks to doves to clays. Brought it to a gun shop I use for all my guns, they quickly checked it out and said it looked OK. I went back to the dealer they said it was best that they hadn't broken the gun down because the Browning rep. wanted the gun sent in to them. Browning fan from way back, but may be looking at my first Beretta X2 in the future. Thanks for the input Mudgun!

 Re: Browning Maxus
Sold a Browning BPS a few of years ago to a young fella I hunted with, could still kick myself. At the time did not forseeeeeeee getting a lease in Pecan island. Got the browning silver to shoot in the timber at the old camp(fast shoot'n in the gum trees) My dad has it now and won't give it up. Got a 12 ga. gold 3" in the gun cab., to damn shiny/pretty for Pecan. But ya right craig a BPS may be the answer, solid black and doubles as a boat paddle

 Re: Browning Maxus
sounds like the good old benelli brake in period. never saw one that functioned worth a crap for the first case.
wonder why a beretta starts runnin out of the box and never quits, when the others need to brake in?

 Re: Browning Maxus
I got an 870 too, that phucker would jam at least once a hunt. Fix = take the pump in your hand and the slam the stock on the ground and shes was freed up. But i sure do like my Extrema 2! Robin any word back from Browning, that sure is a nice gun though.

 Re: Browning Maxus
Finally got it back last week, throw'n steel and spit'n shell like a dream. They wont say what they did to the gun, only thing the dealer could find out was it required a "minor repair". I think they replaced something in the slide action, they sure didn't clean it!

 Re: Browning Maxus
maxxis, thats a double feed not a jam. durring the frenzy of the hunt you are not getting the shell all the way into the mag tube. or the shell catch is not functioning properly. your fix by slaming the butt down is the correct procedure to clear the double feed. this tought by many instructors and blessed by the folks at remington.

 Re: Browning Maxus
i hate to bash, but my new maxus has been to their service department TWO times. it's barely half a yr old. i had problems with a clean cycle but the trigger not pulling as well as jams with the shell coming out of the magazine & other crap. both sets of their repair papers only say "minor repairs." i have not shot it yet after the SECOND repair, but overall, i am highly disappointed. it's my first browning gun - wonderful g damn experience.

 Re: Browning Maxus
The best auto browning made was the A-5. New run guns are prone to problems, its best to wait a little while before you buy one from what I've seen.
When I bought my SBE in 98' I was looking at the new browning gold 3.5" but my guy at the shop told me that they were sending alot of them back for repairs and sometimes it was taking a few weeks to get them back.
As far as the original SBE, I ran the fork out of that gun but it also had weak points. The ejector would break in half or the set screws that keep the ejector assembly in place would work loose. Before the season started I had a friend come over to cannibalize parts from my SBE to put in his. He is a guide and his gun is older than mine and that was the first problem that he had with it. They changed this in the SBE 2.
Now I'm putting an Xtrema 2 through the ropes, so far I like it.
