Post 1448 Alumacraft w/ 10hp Dixie lacks power
Ok. I since have learned most guys are not fans of the dixie. Great. Boat won't plane out. I have played with the tilt/trim. It seems the problem is in either the motor, not producing the rpms or prop size. Any input would be appreciated. Again it's a 10 hp on a 1448 Alumacraft. Prop I think is a 9 x ?. How do you measure pitch?

What is the transom height of the boat?

Is the motor for a tall or short transom boat?

Transom height is 15". Motor appears to sit middle of the transom

Also a lot of these guys have never owned a Dixie that do hate on them. I love my 35. They had issues out the gate as most companies do, but when mike took over a lot
Of the issues were fixed. This issue sounds more like a motor issue then a lower unit issues unless your belt box is dragging the water such as a long shaft on short transom

I had built a jack plate to mess with the height. I lowered the prop to sit about 2" from the bottom like one would with an off shore racer. It made no improvement. It also sat the lower unit about 7" away from the transom . Seemed to disrupt the water a bit. Net will be put on a tach.

I had a 23 hp on a 1448 mod v. It was a turd. Do you have a flat front or mod v. Wood flooring or decks? Try moving gas and battery up front. Your prob way under power!

you should have a 9x9 prop on that 10 horse. if you take the prop off it should be stamped as dixie used hill marine props and they stamp them on the inside front of the prop. if that checks out good try running it out of water. do you have a tach? hold the throttle wide open and see it you hit the rev limiter. your motor could also have the wrong gear ratio. when i got my 6.5 it had to big of a pulley on top and motor was sluggish. that mod v isnt helping either but you should at least be able to step that hull unless it weighs a ton.

I think your under powerd. try moveing weight to the front and run it alone. A tach will help you alot to see where its runing.. good luck

Mudslinger is correct. With the tach, I'm running 3400 ish. Fiddle with the govorner spring by hand and getting 4000. Just need more power. Will going to a 10x11 prop give me more or the opposite?

Or should I just loose a few pounds and get a 12 footer?

I've checked the gear ratio, seems to be 1.3:1. Ran today messed with the center of gravity. No change. Put the speedo on it and ran 6 mph at idle, 7 wide open pushing a huge wake and unable to get and rooster tail. Prop wrong?

Interesting. Removed the gas tank and plastic shroud from engine. Discovered a deformity in the plastic. Removed it. Adjusted govorner spring one notch. Re-routed throttle cable ( still not happy with that part).

Hunted today and gps'ed 14-15 mph! That's me 180#, gun, gear, 2 doz deeks, blind.

I've got a couple different props coming this week. I am pushing for 18 mph, or 14 with another hunter.
