Post Prodigy 1854 / 2015 GTR35
Picked up my boat and motor a few months ago and I'm having a blast with it. This being my first mudboat it took me a little while to get used to everything but I'm confident with operating it. Chad did a great job with the fit and finish and I wouldn't change a thing. It's an open layout with catwalks and trays that really come in handy while hunting and bowfishing. The motor is a new generation GTR35 with the 3 blade prop.

This forum is an awesome place to learn things so I'm gonna make it a point to post often and contribute what I can. That being said I have a question. While hunting this weekend I had another person 180lbs, 6 gal fuel, 1 doz decoys, 2 guns, a small ice chest, and a few boxes of shells. The boat topped out at 21 mph at around 4000 rpms prop half out of the water. Does this seem right?

Love the boat and motor. Is that motor all black? It looks great. That does seem a little slow with that load. Most stock boats I've run with that style chine and a comparable load run between 23-25. Of course, there are a bunch of variables that can affect that. Try adjusting the trim while running, and moving your load around (front to back) until you find the best speed also. I see that you are new to mud motors. They take a little getting the hang of, as I'm sure you've noticed.

Do you know what rpm you are turning out of the water at wide open throttle?

I'm sure the guys at Prodigy can help you getting it dialed in. I'd give Chad a call this morning.

Slow............... way slow. Even with the stock motor and that load you should have been mid 20's. Is 4000 rpms the best you can get out of it?

Play around with the pins on the motor too. (The adjustment that makes the motor ride higher or lower on the transom) just for running around mine likes the top hole.

Sounds about right mid 20's by yourself. That's a heavy boat the way you have it setup

So y'all think that sounds right 21 with a very light load and another person? Just seems a little low. I knew when I bought this boat I wasn't gonna be hitting high 20's low 30's and I'm cool with that. Shit if the fastest I could go in this boat is 21 ever it wouldn't have changed my mind about it one bit. Chad suggested a two blade anyone running the same set up with a 2 blade and getting better speed? I've also done a little bit of research on the mikuni and exhaust and it is an option after the heads are seasoned. I would just hate to lose my warranty, but you have to pay to play.

I'd give a two blade a shot, wouldn't hurt anything. 21 does sound low with that load though

My 1754 prodigy with stock gtr 35 3 blade prop will run 28.5 mph. That's with me (265 pounds) 45 qt yeti 6 gal gas and 1 battery. Runs 25 when adding another 230 pound person and 23 with a third man . That's according to my phone GPS. 3800 rpm seems to be the sweet spot

Try dropping the RPMs. I have the new GTR on a 16-54(Gator Tail) and if I get above 3800 I lose speed. I can run 25 with 2 adults(450 ish), fishing gear and 75qt with ice/fish and fuel.

He needs to check and see if he has an old 11pitch or the new 10 pitch. The 11's sucked on a stock motor.

Definitely seems slow for that boat. But that being said if you're dropping 5 miles an hour with that little but of added weight my $ would be on leaking valves.

My valves leaked BAD at 35hrs. Only run 22-23 SOLO stock 35 (new was around 26). Im now running 28-29, with proper pitched prop heads/carb. Speed doesnt drop off with a load now.

Dayum yall. I'm about to shed a tear over this thread. It's nice to see everyone chipping in to help this guy get his new rig running better without turning this into a boat/motor bashing fest. Just sayin, i'm getting a warm fuzzy.

This is like the "can't we all just get along" world yalls president pretends we live in. lol

My heavy WC 1854 only ran 18-20 empty when I first got it. I tried everything under the moon with no results. I finally added carb and heads from boat dr, gutted exhaust and now am able to run 30 mph empty. I'd do a compression and leak down test. If bet its stock carb/linkage issues or leaky heads. Good luck.

Does Briggs do anything about the leaky valves if you are inside your warranty?

They have to be over a certain percent. They will pay to have them lapped

Cool, thanks.

Once the heads are seasoned and you get the valves lapped etc. do they usually start to leak right away again?
