anybody owned both or shot the two side by side for an extended period of time? disregard price. of these two guns, which one would be your first choice? no doubt both are good guns.

extrema 2 without a doubt. I own a extrema 2 and shot a sx3 for a season well when I wasn't having to use the old 870 because the sx3 kept jamming. to me the extrema 2 is the best shooting gun ive ever shot and it fits me perfect. I have a friend that swears by the sx3 and says his never jams but my experience was ill never own one.

I have a x2, sx3, and maxus, never had a problem with any of them. sx3 seen 50 days of hunting last season and its cold here in WI. Love the gun.

Both reliable as the sunrise for me so far. I hunt with the SX3 cause i like the duratouch finish and its lighter....

Both great guns so far! The SX3 was new the Beretta bought used. Neither has jamed and shot a few tourneys with each...

I would say if you are price shopping get the SX3 but i dont think they make the beretta Xtrema2 anymore. So if you can get a good used one for a good price go for it...

If new, the SX3 is about 5-600 less then the A400 which replaced the Xtrema.

Shot both, sx3 fit me better so that's what I went with, use it for upland and waterfowl, and shoot roughly 3 cases of shells per season, no jam ups to date..

i guess full disclaimer is necessary here. i have an extrema 2 right now. love it and never had any problems with it. never had a sx3 but was thinking about selling my extrema and buying one to help fund a new deer rifle but i dont want to sacrifice any reliability in my shotgun. sounds like i wont lose anything in that regard according to most people.

for you guys that have shot both, any difference in the kick with a 3 1/2?

Been shooting the Maxus which I think is the same as the SX3. Only comment is that you have to clean the powder and residue on the magazine tube or the gun will not cycle well in cold and humid conditions. All browning gas guns are similar. Much lighter and quick to point than extrema. But I don't shoot 3.5" much.

I should add, I have seen the spring break in the gas piston on all 3 guns I've mentioned. Both x2/sx3 were very high round guns. Maxus not so much but still a broke spring.

Quick trip to surecycle to get rid of the spring (sleeve it) and never have to worry about it.

So This would be the only problem area I have seen

Love my sx3 bought new two years ago when they first came out. Only jammed like twice wit kent shells. Don't shoot em anymore. My gun has been dropped in marsh mud few times had to find with my feet. Had to use as a paddle before when didn't have one. Sx3 is a great gun! But every time I do walk into gun shop I pick up the a400 I wouldn't mind shooting it a few times

I like my sx3 also. I've put close to 800 rounds through it and only had it jam once and thats cux it fell in the mud with the action open. Alsi it will hit the guy next to you in the face when it ejects the shell when shooting five stand. haha

Sx3 is an awesome gun, it was my second choice to my A5.

SX3..... Hands down!! shoots smoother than ex2 and lighter. Have "never" had a shell jam. And yes I shoot it more than twice a year.
PLUS its the fastest shotgun on the market, YouTube it, SX3 then watch, 12 rounds in 1.442 seconds, with very little recall. bought the wife a 20ga, another awesome gun.
