Post Gun Safe dilemma
I can't fit anymore guns under my bed, and my son is getting to the age where I need to do something about it. I want a nice safe to protect them and my son. My problem is that I plan on moving in a few years and not sure if I want to move a big heavy ass safe.

So my question is do I just get a cheaper one to get me by until then or just get a good one and move it with me?

Also any info or suggestion are appreciated. My max limit would be 1500$ but would like to stay about 1000$

Don't laugh....but Tractor Suppy has some fairly nice gun safe's for well under a grand. 20 and 30 gun models I believe. I'm about to pick up a couple more 30's myself.

For what you trying to accomplish, these will work fine. It's the 2 hr. fire rated safe's that are expensive as hell.

Go as big as you can afford. I unloaded a 48 gun for a friend and put it in its final spot by myself. Make sure it's loaded on it's back into your truck. Slide it out a little past halfway and let it stand up. Unbolt it off the pallet and spin it 90 degrees on the pallet. Tip over enough to remove the pallet. Tip it over a bit and stick a few sticks of pvc underneath. Now you can move it whenever you want. If you need to go up steps to get it in your house, call some friends.

From someone who deals with people when they have the fires, you get what you pay for. Location of the safe in the house is a big factor as well.

A buddy of mine had the same dilemma he bought the big one and just put in his garage and bolted to floor until he moved. The prices have been going up every year and with your money I would just buy one for this house and another for the new house.8-)

For the price difference I'd go with the 48. You can't really fit as many guns in a safe as the specs say. Not comfortably. It really sucks when you have to pull everything out to get to a gun in the back. Plus, you will find other stuff to store, money, jewelry, documents, on the other side. That will cut your capacity in half too.

Get yourself some of these. I went with them after the 24 gun Liberty I have hit capacity, which is more like a 16 gun with all the scopes.

Get the biggest gun safe you can afford. The economic ones are 30 minute fire rated. The 2 hour fire rated safe ware $4k plus. No matter what you get it will never be big enough to hold all the crap that ends up being secured in it.

Post Re: Gun Safe dilemma
I bought a cheap stack on brand sheet metal safe when I had roommates so there would be some peace of mind. It's okay for mostly honest people, but any 13 year old with a screwdriver could open it. A few years later I bought s 24 gun safe from cabelas. I think champion made it. I can move it by myself around the house and up a couple of stairs with an appliance dolly, but a case of beer with a buddy costs less than back surgery. The 24 gun is about as small as I'd recommend as a lot non guns tend to take up residence in a safe. A couple years ago I made trade for a 48 gun safe. I rented a truck with a lift gate and borrowed a pallet jack. With a little planning and some 2x4's to crib it on and off the lift gate I was able to load and unload the safe by myself on flat ground into the garage. After all that, this here's what I have to say. Buy a 48 gun liberty safe. it's about right for a few bird and deer guns a couple of 22's( think about when your kids are more grown) some cameras and papers and a a goldenrod dehumidifier and bolt it down in your garage. If it's visible from the street cover it with a sheet and some magnets to hold the sheet over it. After owning and moving a couple different safes, I'll also say if you gave anyone with half a brain and some basic power tools 20 minutes without interruption, I have little doubt there's a safe that they couldn't get out of a house and into a van or one that they couldn't have cut a decent size hole in the side of. The reality is cat burglars are for the movies, and most thieves are lazy opportunists, so by owning the safe you've already succeeded.
Best of luck and lift with your knees!!

Go big. I have out grown my 24 gun. I thought it would be plenty plus there is no way you could fit 24 guns in this safe. Mine is the Winchester 24 gun 1hour fire rated. I paid 800 for mine.

When buying a safe i would buy big as others have said, but really look at the locking lugs the more u have on top and bottom the better, u can look up videos of guys getting into safes simply with a crow bar. i understand most thieves are not that smart, but it only takes 1 time that your not home and in 15 min they have all your guns also some burglars will take the whole safe if its light weight………..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8ViUdd-2LM

Get the big one. I delayed for years for the same reason--always said I was going to move. Don't wast your money on the sheet metal stack on ones. Get a big, heavy, fireproof one and bolt it to the concrete (put down some 1/4" rubber horse stall mat as a vapor barrier). Also, get one that's listed to store twice as many guns as you plan on putting in it. They all overstate how many you can fit in them (unless you absolutely pack them and put guns in socks to keep from scratching each other).

You can find safe and piano movers for very reasonable prices (and much cheaper than hernia and back surgery or a trip to the ER if it falls on you).

A constable told me one time they went to check out a safe robbery and they found tons of golf balls on the floor they used to roll it out on. So bolt them down good no matter the size.

Post Re: Gun Safe dilemma
There was a whole thread on shotgun world forum about what thieves have done to get gun safes.

Guy had his bolted to his wall on the second story and they took a sawzall and cut a section of the wall out and then just pushed it from the second story to the outside.

Another one used hockey pucks to keep it off the floor and they used a jack to pop the bolts he had bolting it to the concrete.

Another guy said they pushed his down his second story flight of stairs, breaking the stringers on his staircase.

Another one hat one ripped out of his garage that was bolted down with either a logging chain or they thought a tow/wrecker truck

The main things were:
1. They want to get the safe on it's back.
2. They want to bring the safe someplace they can work on it for hours because they can get into anything eventually
3. They don't give two shits if they damage what's inside (a cop on there said they used to find Browning Belgian Sweet 16's in crack houses with the stocks and barrels hacked off).

You'd be surprised what two guys can move, so get a big ass heavy safe and have it bolted to concrete in an area they can't use equipment to get to it.

Finally bit the bullet. Academy has a cannon safari 64 on sale now for 599$ regular 1000. It's not the fanciest but for the price. It's a great deal. It ends on the 28th. I wouldn't wait if ya'll interested. There weren't many left.

I bought one of the big, heavy Liberty safe about 4 years ago. They deliver the thing to your curb and no more. If you want it inside it's more $$$, when you move, the movers exact more $$$ out of you, then they tell you they won't be liable for rolling it on the floors in your house.
The big, heavy safes are pay as you go...if you have tile in your house then that's another issue. I had them put the bast*rd in the garage on the concrete. Now all a crook needs is a trailer and a hand truck. When and if they get it open they will find 3 concrete blocks in it and a big FU written on them.
All my guns are in the Tractor Supply safe in my closet.
