Is $10000.00 for a 4 man blind seem a little high?

I about chit my shorts when I saw that ad on the sportsman before the season opened.

If you wanna look down towards Hopedale you can lease up some acres down there but its just saltwater marsh. The fishing is excellant there at that time of year.

^^^^^^ THis

The 220 acre field we leased this year is $12,000.00 split by 8 guns....do the math on that one-

There is a line a mile long to get on here. Some guys tried to negotiate a better price due to the economy....homeboy said pay it or step aside, there's a waiting list for the field to open up. It's 30 minutes west of Houston and convenient.

I don't care how many ducks you can kill, fork sitting down in a pit looking at the same mudhole all year long. Besides paying good money to do it.

I got to agree with Ronnie on this one. Plenty of ducks on public water, just got to do your scouting and be mobile. Oh, and keep your mouth shut when you do get on the birds.

Sorry, I didn't mean to stereotype. I just know who leases some of the fields I was talking about. The price you pay should really depend on how many times you plan on using it. I would not pay that for a blind I'm only gonna get to hunt four or five times but if it was right by my house, I would consider splitting it with a few other guys. In fact, we have considered leasing one of Courville's blinds almost every season. Just haven't been able to justify it yet based on the number of hunts we would make.

TBS, you may get a lease for that up there but a single pit blind here can be 10-12 grand last I heard. A doctor/lawyer (or any other big money guy or group) dropping 10 grand on a lease is like most other working stiffs I know dropping 1, myself included. And we dont get the right offs either or much for our 1 grand for that matter. Like it or not you got to have plenty of spare change to play the lease game. Yeh, some folks may have gotten in on long term leases and pay less. The biggest issue is that when they come open and the bidding starts, most folks can't get in on them due to the costs and big money can drop 10x more than I can. You could probably share a pit with 5 or so other guys for a grand but why anyone would I don't know. The term doctor money is nothing to take personal. If you are a doctor you earn much more than most of us so why be offended. One thing I learned about leases is that the initial cost is the least of your worries, the reoccuring costs of everything else can add up to alot more. I'm not as mad at them anymore. I killed around 50 birds this year and it was my worst numbers wise on record. All on public. The flood level waters all season screwed us more than anything I believe.

We hunt salt water marsh and flood crawfish ponds, spent over $1200 in fuel to keep the ponds flooded last year (4-6 acres). These ponds will loose up to 2" a day just with the north wind sucking it up not to count on whats being lost in the ground. Then throw in a pump(2K-3K used) and tractor(least 50HP) its easy to see why these guys ask so much for flooded area's. I had the same attitude about the cost until personally seeing what it took to keep these little ponds full of water. Justy something to think about when lookin at a lease.

The problem that I have now down here is people leasing out ponds in the marsh for about a thousand bucks. Now I have no problem leasing out acreage or a couple of ponds for that kind of money but just a pond give me a break but its so bad people are leasing them.

These are not doctors or lawyers they are just blue collar guys looking for a place to hunt.

Post Re: looking for duck lease in LA
Just because doctors and lawyers can afford to pay for those 10k blinds doesnt make them any different than the working man. they still have to go and do all the work that comes with duck hunting. Hell, its not just doctors and lawyers that can do that, oilmen and oil companies gather up leases all over the state of LA. but guess what, if you had the money you would do the same damn thing. Their hunting was prolly not much, if any, better than anyone elses. We hunt in Pecan Island and its mostly high dollar folks, but guess what, they got the money to pay for it so let them. Our lease is by far not the cheapest nor the most expensive, nor does is always produce tons of birds, but no matter what we always have fun. I, personally, dont make a ton of money, but if it came down to a 10k blind or public land, you can bet your a$$ id find 4 friends to divide a blind. If you really want to duck hunt, you will do anything to be able to go.

and i can promise ya'll if my land was in rice ponds i would def. lease out a few blinds for 4 or 5 grand a piece.

It's actually DU putting warm water impoundments on YANKEE doctors and lawyers leases up there that short stops the birds.

Sorry, it's been a pisser of a day and I felt like stirring the pot.

Duck hunting has never been anything but a sport. Deer hunting USED to be the hunt for the common folk. There isn't enough meat on a duck to make it viable as a food source so it's about sport. Sport is expensive.
Look all the way back to Currituck and Back Bay and the Susquehenna Flats. Sports paying BIG money to gun those ducks. Nothing new but the camo pattern.
