Post EFI vs. Mikuni
To be as constructive as possible i would like to keep the cost aspect out of this question as i have done a lot of searching and reading on this so am aware of the cost difference. SO....here is the question im looking for an answer to:

1) Given the same motor and hull, is EFI faster, slower, or equal to a Mikuni?

I know there is a difference in idle and cold weather perfromance but havent really read a defiinate answer of any speed difference EFI vs. Mikuni. It seems A lot of the threads ive read on this have turned into just a cost debate so im just looking for pure performance comparison especially from someone that may have run both at some point on the same hull with same mods other than fuel delivery. Thanks

Efi will be more efficient which will mean more power and better fuel economy. It will adjust to weather conditions and loads on its own. A carb simply cannot do that.

Post Re: EFI vs. Mikuni
I think the real answer is that the mm manufacturers r just now getting their hands on these engines from Briggs this month.

So far no one is shipping them I don't believe and they are unproven w mods etc.

The real answer will take time.

For me if I wanted a proven non stock setup today I would go w a 35 w carb, heads and exhaust.

The answer may change in 3, 6, 12 months etc

Chad, would you consider pro drives aftermarket EFI a more proven setup than the briggs factory EFI? If so, is there a verdict on its perfromance vs mikuni?

Pro Drive website says their efi kits adds 3 to 5 mph top end speed. Probably what you could expect with a mikuni. Since briggs efi hasnt hit yhe shelves yet I would definitely not consider it proven by any means. That's just my opinion though.

I got the E2 kit and just had it installed by Owen. Have had it back a week now and put about 10 hours on it. I have been happy thus far, idles great, no hesitation, no having to let it warm up at ramp. This morning I was checking speed coming back in, with 4 men, gear and blind was running consistent 21.5....before with same exact load I could get to 19 but it was a struggle. Just me the blind and my 100lb lab I am doing 26.8, before about 24-25. I can't speak on the mikuni, but I'm real happy with the efi e2....even at the $2550 price tag.

The price was hard to swallow but had just sold some stuff so had the cash to burn. I admit I was hoping for a lil more in speed but it pushes a load much better than before.

I'd be interested to see the comparison - especially with throttle response/acceleration. This is where the Mikuni shines over the stock carb, extremely responsive throttle and acceleration.

If nothing is done to address the leaking stock valves, you could put either EFI or Mikuni on and have sub-par performance. So headwork (valve work at a minimum) should be added to any mod list.

If you take your motor to a dealer to have it tuned, EFI, if you work on your motor your self, stay with a carb. EFI needs a computer to read the ECM unit, and needs a program to tune engine.

Is there a review thread of a motor with EFI and heads/valves done?

That's what I'd like to do to mine.

I think efi is prolly great but the mikunni tuned right does idle real well I can bury prop in grass and mud and idle with no problem there are a few like Todd c that have the equipment to properly tune a carb it's well worth it if say carb tuned correctly for Louisiana climate I would pick mikunni any day due to price because I don't think the efi would make ..25 mph difference over a properly jetted engine but as for places where you are constantly below 30 degrees maybe it's better there I wouldn't know
