Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
For the whole kit it's north of $200. I took mine apart where the magnets are and got all the oil out of there and dried every thing and put it back together. I also put new fluid in the trim.

Does anyone know if I can just buy the o-rings/seals from gator tail? I don't need the whole rebuild kit as it was working fine it was just leaking.

When I got to this part in the disassembly I said Fk it and bought a brand new current edition from Gator Tail. Works much better than old one.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
I ordered from gator tail too. But if the two small o rings that go on the stem didn't come with the o ring kit I was gonna try to find them before I got my order from GT. I got my stuff from GT today and those small o ring came with it but there is four plungers that have o rings that are very small too and the kit does not have them in it. I wonder why.

Only 2 of the plungers on mine had orings I left them in place so I would not forget which 2 had them.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
Got my parts put everything back together correctly I think. Now trim won't work. I hear everything turning on the inside. The ram is squishy like there is air in it or something and if I look in the reservoir there are lots of bubbles and aeration in the oil. Anybody think they know what I did wrong?

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
I put mine together with the ram all the way in. I left both plugs out and filled with fluid. Switched it on and it ran for about 20 sec. Without moving then it started. I didn't think mine would work at first but after running a little then adding fluid a few times it worked all the air out.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
I did the same ran it for a minute + topping off as it consumed fluid. It inched out a few times but never started working properly. I shut it down so I would not break anything if I had effed up

It looks just like a trim unit for a CMC trim plate. I have a spare unit with the same issue if someone needs one let me know.

Mine was put back together correctly I just didn't have enough oil in it after some direction from one of the mechanics at GT it's working like a champ.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
Good deal. FYI I was looking at what GT charged me for the seals and they charged 9 dollars for the seals/ orings and 9 dollars to ship. What a joke. An envelope and a stamp is all it would have took. Smh

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
Did this "rebuild kit" have a part number or anything that can be cross referenced online, or was it just some O-rings in a zip-loc bag?
My trim died today. It was acting pretty erratic going up, but down seemed ok. I trimmed it up to put my trailer bracket on and I can hear it very weakly trying to spin the motor, but its not going up nor down. Battery is fully charged, and has good power to the trim unit. Hopefully its just fluid in the motor like mentioned earlier in this thread.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
My ram seal is leaking; I have a seal kit coming from Gator Tail. This write-up was the best I could find for guidance. Can anyone provide me with a schematic and/or step by step procedures? I emailed CMC and they don't have shit. I have the model 7414 actuator.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
I didn't have a schematic I just took it apart and laid everything out in the order I removed it. And I called CMC too. They were no help for me either.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
A couple months back, I changed out all of the seals, assembled and filled with ATF. I ran it on my bench several times...works great, all fine and dandy. I left it clamped in the vice and just got around to bolting it up on my motor. Before I wired it all back up, I ran to make sure it was going to work. Works great, but if I leave it with the motor trimmed down for an extended period of time, it starts to leak fluid between the aluminum plate and body (fluid reservoir side). When the motor is trimmed up, doesn't leak whatsoever. Tried to wipe some gasket sealer on the outside, didn't work. When I pulled it apart to RR the seals, it looked like there was "hot glue" on a couple of the bolts and around the edge. so... 1) should have I used a form-a-gasket material when assembling? 2) Now what? Pull apart again? If I had the $550, I would...trust me.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
Man I have rebuilt quite a few of these, and yes there was some thin sealant on the mating surfaces that wipes off once the plate is off the housing, But Upon reassembly I haven't had any issues of them leaking. I would double check that all the bolts are tight.

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
On second thought, it almost seems like some sort of thread sealant that would have leaked past the thread upon initial assembly, not really a "sealant"

Re: Rebuilding the square gator tail trim tonight...
The only parts that are under pressure are o ring sealed. the large o ring around the piston housing and the small o ring next to it. The rest of the unit requires no sealant. Also do not call CMC as they are not rebuildable and no parts are available....... Id take it apart and make sure its all flat and torqued properly. Make sure the piston seals aren't leaking.... that's the most common seal to leak.
