 Suicide awareness
Please keep the guns hidden and away from kids or anyone who thinks irrationally sometimes ..and go over every possible safety aspect on any type of ATV with your kids. we had a freshman student at my school passed away in a fourwheeler accident late last week. Our entire school has been in complete shock all week. As of not even an hour ago another freshman student here got his hands on a shotgun and took his own life we think due to purely overwhelmed with the fourwheeler wreck, they were really good friends..Our school has suffered a devastating blow over the past 3 year looseing 9 students, This is the 3rd suicide we have had in those years. 2 of them were fatal gun shot wound.
These really young kids tend to think irrationally alot and do things out of their right mind. If anyone is going through a rough time or know anyone who is, be there for them and most importantly keep anything dangerous and harmful away. Suicide awareness is often overlooked but it is something very real more people need to be aware of.
Please keep the 2 students and their family in your thoughts and prayers. We can olny hope and pray that this streak of heart ache will end here in this South East Texas school... Some of you locals may know but i want to leave the school name undisclosed in respect to the family's, thanks

 Re: Suicide awareness
It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Sad. My condolences.

 Re: Suicide awareness
Sad deal for sure. Young ppl's emotions can really get the best of them. As someone who struggled with depression as a kid its easy to have tunnel vision and fail to see the big picture and what life has to offer. Depression is a hell that's hard to understand unless you are living it. Some can handle the demons, some cannot. Prayers to the families.

 Re: Suicide awareness
thanks for bringing this subject back up Q&S - it is something we all as friends & parents fear, talking about it with the people in your life is tough but not discussing it can be catastrophic not only for those that take their own lives but for those left behind without any answers viewtopic.php?f=13&t=56714&hilit=Suicide

 Re: Suicide awareness
I'm very sorry to hear this. It's so terrible that these kids don't realize the situation they are in is a phase. Just something they have to get through.
Baron, you should be damn proud of your son!

 Re: Suicide awareness
Been around suicide way too much in my days and it is a terrible situation for all involved. My heart goes out to the families and friends involved in this. It is a good idea to keep your guns under lock and key for a lot of reasons. It ain't the good ol' days anymore.

 Re: Suicide awareness
Real sorry to hear about this sad situation, prayers to the friends family and community.
Definitely one of those tough things that no one wants to talk about but needs to. Just attended a funeral of a friend a few weeks back that took his life...Lots of things can be hard (other kids, "status"/popularity, relationships, etc etc etc) at that age and seem like a huge weight. Like mentioned by others, I struggled with depression early in life it can be tough, why I try to go out of my way to be kind...like that old story about the one kid that helps the other pick up his books then at graduation the kid says that day he was going home to kill himself and the moment of kindness saved his life.
Moral of the story: Emotions aren't a sign of weakness, especially during hard times. Don't be afraid to show them whether its getting them out yourself or caring about someone else, always important to be there for friends, family, kids, etc and you never know how the seemingly smallest kind words could effect someone even a stranger, I doesn't cost anything to do it.

 Re: Suicide awareness
Thanks guys, today was one of the funerals... the school was torn apart. I think maybe half the people showed up. Its been a tough past 3 years looseing 9 students/friends..
The whole suicide thing though really gets me, its the ones at school who have all the friends and who look happy as could be and then boom gone, nobody ever know why.

 Re: Suicide awareness
Working in the mental health field, I have to see things like this often. I am sorry for the difficult times your community is having to grow through. It really is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Time and time again, it is shown that those that survive a suicide attempt are grateful that they were unsuccessful in the attempt. I hope that the community is taking the steps needed to get the children and adolescents the help they need in this difficult time.
