I am ready to file the paperwork to create our nonprofit mudmotor association. I ask that every one post up here what they would like it to be named. The name should reflect , at least in some way, the mission of the association which is to promote the use of mudmotors and their safe and responsible operation. Once I get a good sampling I'll pick the top 5 names and post up a poll for everyone to vote on.

Will the association be on a state or national level?

I think then name has to have Mudmotor in it. Just surface drive alone or shallow water to the general population mean nothing. The average guy upon hearing shallow water boat might think its just a regular outboard fitted onto a shallow water boat.

I thought we were trying to get away from the mudmotor term which comes with some negativity from the misinformed. They assume that the motor runs only in the mud and tears up the environment.

Just remember that if there is a way to incorporate kayaks that might be an advantage since they are the fastest growing boating sector. I know that isn't the point of the group but your potential membership base will have more power in numbers and politicians know that every other outdoor store now carries them. Even if we don't have any of them in the group just having them associated with the name makes it broader reaching. Just a thought and wanted to float it out there.

I like shallow water boating association. That doesn't just limit it just to MM boats. I think by not limiting the name to mud motor it would do the same effect of not saying Louisiana in the name. The more sectors you can bring in the bigger and broader reaching the association seems even if it does only look after MM issues.

I respectively disagree. I'm a kayaker and I own a mud boat. In fact before I own the mud boat I used a kayak to go for my boat hide to my blind every morning. I understand your point that kayaking is typically associated with health and tree hugging but that does not go across the whole spectrum of that sector. I have six friends locally that are interested in both so it can't be just an anomaly fot me here. I believe at the heart of the subject of some of the issues as of late are dealing with restricting access. I have hypothisized that if all mud motors were banned in certain areas and people went to kayaks then kayaks would be next on the list. I'm not saying that we have kayaks in our name I'm just saying do not name it in a manner that would restrict that possibility. That's the reason I like shallow water boating because that associates with so many different sectors. If they don't like mud motors and you have that in the name they will not listen to you from the jump.
