Think it's time for a new prop...
BB on my 4500 is down to 11.25" from its new overall diameter of 12.25" noticed it was running a little higher RPMs this past weekend.... 4400-4500. Normally around 4300.
Wanna get the Hammer for my next prop. I know some people are so so about the Hammer on the BD4500 over a larger motor....
Lets get some a few more opinions before I pull the trigger...
I like the idea of a better hole shot with the Hammer as well...

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
Im gonna say if you're running 4300 that you probably wont care for it. Its almost like putting another person in your boat all the time. A big sumbutch lol. If you got enough balls to plane out with a full load then it dont matter, but when it gets questionable with only a few people in there you really dont need that extra load on the motor. The cup is only a little bigger on the hammer. What hurts the motor so much is that the prop weighs a freaking ton compared to a big blade.

The hammer wears so much better, but is a large prop. Once you wear it in shouldn't have a problem turning it with a load.

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
You think it's a significant loss in power? Is the low end on that prob a lot better than the BB?

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
For your setup, in the beginning it might be a lil slower out the whole. Thus is because your turning a much bigger and heavier wheel. You'll loose about 150 to 200 rpms new. Now the more it wears, the faster it gets. My motor will turn a new bb 4600 in low 30s. New hammer 4450 rpm at 28. It's now after two seasons still good, running 4500 rpm at 29 to 30 mph. That is with just me, or me 250 buddy 265, 12 gal, 65 yeti 28 29 mph. I will say with a large load and your motor, the bb be better. I really recommend the hammer if you need to keep rpms down, or need a tough prop.

If you get a hammer and don't like it, just sell it on here. Imo it's worth the try

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
Spoke with the crew at Prodigy. Ordered the Hammer today will get it monday. Apparently a lot of Hammer orders have been going through lately, especially since the GTR blades seem to keep cracking with some of the new motors.....

The reason they are going on gt, because they are a beast in reverse too. You will be happy with that prop

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
I'm kinda lost about this tiger blade. Can you maybe straighten me out? If your bd45 loses rpm cause the blade is bigger. Can you change out the bottom gear to a bigger gear? Or is a bd45 just not enough motor?

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
So just ran the new Hammer prop in mainly open water while fishing the ICW today after work and all I can say is WOW! This thing shoots my boat from a dead stop and plains it out in 1/3 of the time my BB took (granted it was worn, but its better than it was new). The rpm on the motor went from new BB @ 4300 to Hammer @ 3800, which you would think makes it slower WOT, but this thing was pushing the boat in open water faster than it ever has and its obviously quieter since the motor isn't screaming as much. Bottom line..... buy this prop any day over the BB. Very pleased!

Where do our motors make peak performance? Around what rpm?

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
Hp or torque? Or best of both worlds? Because the best rpms for a boat changes with the boat, even with the same engine. Prop wear affects that too. It's a loaded question without a clear cut answer. My Kawa does best on my boat, performance wise, at 4150 rpms with one prop, 4300 with another, but does best in the mud about 300 rpms higher than where the peak torque number is. On my dad's boat, that same motor withe the same prop does best speed at 4000 rpms, and 4200 with the other, but does best in the same mud around 200 rpms more than on my boat. See what I'm saying? It's all dependant on your rig, load, prop, engine as far as what you see. The only thing that can be quantified is where does the motor produce it's best torque and Hp numbers, and that's gonna be roughly the same on a stock motor, but once you start modding, it'll be different based on each recipe.
What I will say is the stock 35 Briggs produces peak torque at 3300 rpms, and peak hp at 3600.

Re: Think it's time for a new prop...
I am wondering if the hammer might be worth a try on mine. I am spinning the BB mid 4000's but not generating any speed. I spin the 3 blade GT prop around 4100 to 4200 with a light load. With a really heavy load I am spinning the 3 blade around 3800. What do you guys think?

I've ran the hammer past two seasons, only good things to say. You do need some motor to turn it though
