Anybody here ride a road bike?
Sound off. I have been riding a Mt bike for many years. Mainly as exercise. I ordered and now have a Trek Domane road bike that I have been tearing up the road with for the past week. I'm asking as I have some questions about different aspects of the road bike. I'm not really wanting to join a forum to ask some simple questions. I really enjoy riding 10-15 miles per day. I am trying to get my weight down and get myself back into some kinda of shape while I still can. Thanks in advance. Netman

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Fire away. I raced mountain bikes up until 2 years ago. Still ride a road bike because of the convenience of leaving from my house instead of having to pack up and drive to trails.

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
I'm pondering the clip in peddles and shoes. Any thoughts? I'm looking at SPD type right now. Also chain lube. The bike shop said a dry graphite type???

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
SPD (Speedplay) style are going to be the better pedals. The Look style are not a bad second choice.
Dry lube vs wet lube....age old argument. My $0.02 for what it's worth. Dry lube for road bikes, wet for MTB. Dry lube picks up less road dirt/dust/grime. Use wet if you ride in the rain a lot. The wet provides better lubrication...but, will need more frequent cleaning.

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Go for the click in pedals. You will never regret it, till you you are stopped and for some reason cannot get your shoes in or out.
Used to ride a lot back in the late 80's and early 90's. In fact, I am watching tiro's Tour de France right now from this morning.

Anybody here ride a road bike?
That's right. My bad....Been too long since I played with the bikes. I had the SPD's on my mountain bike pedals. Reason being, I could wear my MTB shoes and the clips were recessed in the bottom. The Speedplays....like JB said, they a pain to walk in.....but, IMO...they are the best.

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Don't ride at all now but it was mountain bike for me and decided to try road bike for exercise. Spent about $800 to get started. Second ride I got pinned against the curb on a three lane road at 4 am by the only car on the road. Decided I felt safer riding my HD during rush hour. A week later a friend got hit, broke his collar bone and ruptured himself. Sold my road bike. Hope that helps

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Thanks guys. My daughter raced for five years at Indiana University. She preaches Speed play however she was sponsored by them. I asked her about hooking ol dad up and anyone here with adult children know that answer. I'm going to get the SPD.

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Blue are those X2's? The speedplays are pricey compared to the SPD's. I ride everyday and plan to until winter comes. Trying to get the best first time around rather than cheap first then the best second. Are the speedplays that much better?

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
That the Garmin Edge computer? That's what I have. Almost bought a Felt TT bike to replace my Softride tri bike. Sold the Softride and never could get the deal I wanted on the Felt. Then, cycling kinda fell to the back burner. LOL .....life seems to get in the way of a lot of things! There's a lot of money tied up in that Orbea and the accessories....that's why I can't part with it!

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Why dont you invest in a decent mountain bike and equip it with road wheels?? Comfy. Works well. not afraid to hit the odd pothole if you cant go around it due to traffic....

I have time iClic's on my Masi. They are nice.
Know anywhere to sell a roadbike besides craigslist? I just don't use it at all anymore.

Lsufan I'm 6,2 275. I was at 285. I cut out salt and ride my bike for a hour each day and I'm melting away. I wore out several mountain bikes over the years. This is my first true road bike and I love it.

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Not sure what it's worth. I'd have to look at the specs, it had a carbon rear triangle and carbon forks and seat posts. I think I have 350 miles on it. I'm 6', it would fit anyone from probably 5'9-6'1. It's a 2013, I pd 1300 cash for it brand new. I'd sell it with the pedals and shoes( I this they are 43.5 shoes. Pm me if you're interested.

It's funny that a $1000 bicycle is faster than a $25,000 mudboat lol.

redfish that's what I was thinking after I hit 'post' on my last post. I was thinking I'm using .1 on my speeds of my bicycle just like I do on my GDSD speed. Ha

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
My daughter has a really nice Orbea. She was sponsored by them when she was at Indiana Univ racing bikes. She has three road bikes and a ton of accessories. She guards the Orbea like some type of psycho bike worshipper. My wife is now looking at a carbon road bike......... Her Schwinn road bike aint cutting it anymore.

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
Loved living up in Illinois...we made a lot of rides and races in Indiana....RAIN (twice), Hilly Hundred umpteen times, Brown County Hills Challenge, The Great Pumpkin Metric...then there were all the races....man, Indiana is probably the bicycling capital of the US when I think about it!

Re: Anybody here ride a road bike?
I hit 200 miles today on my road bike since I bought it. Blue you were all around me when you were shredding asphalt with your bike here in Indiana. My wife and I ride daily however on my days off we will double or triple our daily miles. I have dropped nearly 15 pounds since I got my Trek. My blood pressure has dropped quite a bit too.
