Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I tried a BB today on my boat and was not impressed. Was slower empty and terrible with a heavy load. RPM's were higher than with the three blade but just could not get it to run decent. Wondering what everyone else has seen when changing. I am going to give it another try when the weather is more cooperative and I can try some different pin heights etc.

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I love the big blade on my GTR it's stock but to me it performs and wears better than the stock two blade plus it's balanced better than gatortail props but others said it wouldn't perform on their rig so the boat/load may have more to do with it

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
BB did not work for my stock 35 gtr but my boat is big and heavy. Just not enough ass to turn it. 11 three bade worked best. I'll try it again after I mod the motor. Whenever that is .

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I tried one and couldnt get it to work. I usually run steady 27-28 with a GT 3 blade but i just could not break 24 with a big blade..

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
Looks like I am not the only then. I could spin it but could not get any forward bite out of it. I am going to try changing the pins on the motor and see if it makes a difference. Like I said, the weather drove me away before I could mess with it very much so it may just have been operator error lol

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I just bought the hammer for my BD4500 after running the stock BB. The hammer shits on the big blade. It cuts the hole shot down to 1/3 of the time and moves some serious water. The motor runs a little less on rpm, but I don't care it gets better speed in open water at WOT.
I have been hearing about the GT 3 blade props cracking brand new from the factory as well and a lot of guys are running the hammer. I just would beef up my motor before you throw it on a stock GTR35 though.
Don't ever plan on going back to the BB. Hammer all the way. Plus its a harder composite steel and should last a lot longer.

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
Pretty sure I could spin the Hammer when empty but I carry a lot of heavy loads and I am pretty sure it would be too much.

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I'm turning a big blade with my modded small block. It's pushing MAYBE 30hp. No way you couldn't with the 37 efi. Especially since the stock 2 blade gt has is a 12x10. This thread has a lot of wtf going on. I'm not saying it's a better or worse prop than the gt 2 and 3 blades but an efi motor not being able to turn it? It's a quarter inch larger than the gt and it's the same pitch.

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
Except for the fact the the GTR has taller gear ratio, and you have more surface area on the big blade. OD and pitch are only half of the story.

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I understand all that, but it's still not so tall it should make a bb give any trouble to a 37efi. To say a bb is that much more prop than the stock gt is ridiculous. The gt gearing and gt prop blade surface area is not such a perfect match that the big blade would be the tipping point and cause the motor to lug out of its performance window. If so, then burying the stock prop into mud would be a fools errand, as would adding a second person. Maybe the big blade doesn't perform as well with a load on a stock gtr, but the efi has been touted as producing better speeds and more power than a carb stage 1. If that can't turn a big blade with the stock gt gearset, then something is wrong. And it's not simply the addition of the larger blade surface area and 1/4" diameter.

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I don't know, not anything about props or gears or anything. Just know that i droped almost 6mph switching between the props. Same day, same load, same water conditions. (1-2ft deep, 1 other person and ice chest in boat) and there are several people that witnessed it.
I didn't run it very long but I played with trim and pin positions in the little time i did. Started with prop burried then slowly trimed up until speed started to drop off again, 23 was the best i got.
We're comparing a GT 3 blade to a big blade here, not a GT 2 blade

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
If i can find someone in the area that would swap me for a day and I could actually put some time into it I would, just the one quick time i did, did not impress me at all. Other than the reverse lol

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
I get you couldn't turn it. And i do trust your account of what happened. My point is there's something more going on. The 10 pitch three blade, 10 pitch 2 blade, and 10 pitch big blade may have different characteristics, but shouldn't be 6mph apart. Period. The blade surface difference shouldn't lug down a stock efi motor, and at times the three blade will have more blade surface area in contact with the water than the big blade.

Re: Big blade vs GT 3 blade
Then what could possibly be be the issue? I don't understand how it could be something else, runs like a champ with a GT prop, then something's wrong when I switch
