I use my own and love it. Watching a wood or cork bird ride the waves especially one you made will make you want to throw the plastics away. Have made mallards, blacks, gadwall, wigeon, greenwings, cans, blackheads, and old squaw. Why not try making your own? There are places online where you can order a pre cut out blank that you just have to carve/round, sand, and paint. To carve all you need is a half round rasp and an xacto knife. Paint you can get a few brushes and some paint from Walmart or Michael's.

No I didn't hollow it out , I didn't think about that at the time when I was making it. I did make some new heads for some of my herters that my kid shot when he was little they came out good.I have some hand carved teal deeks out of cork with cedar heads right ride very good even with a slight breeze they will move when my plastics wont.

Mark Daisey, Norman Williams, Julie Gilbert, Pete Hilliard, and home made Decoys Unlimited foamers with carved heads. I didn't start using plastic decoys until I started taking my children hunting. Even though the children are now past the age where a decoy might catch a pellet, we've gotten attached to our G&H dekes(or Bigfoot Geese) and only break out the cork and cedar stuff occasionally.

The bad thing about hand carved decoys, especially ones from noted carvers, is that re-painting them is ill advised. Once they get a little "character" they are best shelved as collectibles. The good thing is that, in a pinch, you can sell one and buy 2-3 dozen G&H.
