 Drive Won't Engage
Hey guys, bought a 1754 - 06 PD 32 Vanguard, with center console. It was running fine, grabs 4000 rpm's with no problem drive engaged just perfectly. Then I decided to change the prop, and LU oil along with lower seal. After all done, cranked her up but stinkin drive will not engage now! When I pull the clutch knob it try's to engage but just locks and engine dies. What's with that?? Also, the trim switch was has a broken connector so disconnected all the wires and pulled the switch out to get another......could it be related and be electrical? Could the clutch not be engaging the drive in forward because of the busted electrical trim connection? Thanks.

Oh yea, its was fed the purple stuff 80w/90 in LU. Kinda of thought the trim switch wouldn't have anything to do with it. Trying to figure what do I need to do next?

 Re: Drive Won't Engage
I guess neutral is working cause it will start and run , so the clutch works to the extent it goes into neutral each time. Its when I engage forward that the prop doesn't spin, although it tries for a moment then like locks and engine dies.

Did you remove the pin that allowed you to take the wheel off?
Most liberals seem to suffer from the same mental condition....it's called stupidity!

 Re: Drive Won't Engage
Something obviously has your drive train in a bind. Just a matter of figuring out where.
Start with taking the prop off and see if the clutch engages. You did use a new tapered bushing with the new prop, right?

 Re: Drive Won't Engage
Yes, I believe it is, its the one that was shipped from PD. Is it possible that a lower bearing may have seized up and I need to pull it? I'll try taking the prop off and see what happens.

 Re: Drive Won't Engage
BlueShamu thank you , thank you! Problem solved man! That must have been the issue, somehow the bushing was so tight or "pinched" the shaft that it would not allow it to turn. Put the prop back on with less than ape gorilla tightness and she's ready for the water. Runs about 3650 rpms with the prop in gear, need to figure how to get those up next. Thanks everyone for the help...this sight is awesome!

 Drive Won't Engage
Before you go out and tear something up, just want to be sure you put the bushing on first....then, thread the prop onto the shaft over the bushing....with plenty of Never Seize on everything.
DO NOT put the bushing in the prop and put them on together.
The bushing has a cornered edge that is supposed to prevent it and the prop from sliding up and onto the seal nut.

 Re: Drive Won't Engage
Yes, I did, but first time I had just put it in on with it in the prop. Lesson learned, and yes plenty of never seize.
Thanks again.
