Post Minnesota August Early Goose/intensive Harvest
How many of you Minnesotans or other states that have one, do the August goose season? Every year when duck season gets going, we wish we hadn't as it seems our usual spots are less productive when we do a ton of early and August hunting. It seems like there are some decent pass shooting opportunities and small flocks we can pattern, but the survivors get to be spooky. The calls and texts have started to meet up Saturday and shoot a few, but the reality is they are barely flying and the only crop fields that are open are alfalfa and oats and I only have a couple of those that I have access to. It's a fun time, but cleaning a hot slimy goose while wiping away sweat and mosquitoes requires a lot of beer. Just wondering how many guys get into it, or do you wait for something better? I'm not going to lie, i got out the blind bag and gear Saturday and got all pumped up!

Ours isn't till September but I usually try and get out...more or less to see if there's any teal around as it usually opens the following weekend.

Same here. Ours is the same 2 weeks as teal season. Sometimes the teal season will be off by a week. The only fields we use are cut grass or possibly a sweet corn field. It is my least favorite waterfowl to shoot because of the amount of meat and let's be real, ducks and geese are no fillet mignon

Most of the geese shot in MN in August were just swimming by.

I might go once, but it's not my favorite.

We got september 1-15 5 per day per person with early teal sept 1-7. by september all geese are flying and decent amount of teal around 5 per day per man. Geese are more fun to shoot than to eat so we just make sausage and jerky. We have gotten a 3 man limit 2 years in a row and typically shoot 50-100 geese during an early season. They are sky carp just take out the big one in the flock first and mop up the smaller juveniles as they come back around. Its kind of funny how after lighting up the flock a couple comeback calls bring em right around again. We got way too many geese here. I don't bother specifically going for them after early season because we can only shoot 2 a day.

I have to fly up to Minneapolis on Sunday for a trade show. I didn't realize there was an August goose season. Does that include honkers ?

It's only honkers, no light geese.

Our limit is 10 birds per man in August, no possession limit.

I looked in the usual spots this weekend and saw nothing. There were quite a few in some pastures near cattle so we let them be. Did some fishing and put up game cameras instead. The photo is last year this time when we had winter wheat on one of our better fields.
