 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
Yea it has three seals. I asked if I needed to replace that but and he said no. I just have a prop and shaft coming.

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
Since you have it apart and I have never taken mine apart yet, is it possible to remove that gear from the shaft? How is it on there, keyway, pressed, etc?

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
I've been looking at it. It's definitely generic bearings. Im going to look into taking it apart to see if it could be built locally. Surely someone on here has done it before. I wish I could get something other than a threaded shaft. Considering where I run and how I run this boat, I think the shaft breaking was a fluke or bad casting. It's definitely made me wary.

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
Im more looking at the gear, but yes, I would like the hex shaft to run the newer props. Mine is a gen 2 from 07'. If the gear can come off, then another can be installed (possibly). That would allow you to play with gear ratios and adjust the gears to the loads you want to carry.

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
That gear should be able to come off the shaft. Dont own a PD tho and never torn one apart. I paid around 100 bucks for a new stainless shaft locally

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
I probably pack my bearings too much on my trailers, but I see way too many trailers on the side of the road with smoking or missing wheels. I have bearing buddies on my boat trailer that work pretty well. They are just messy.

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
^^^^^ Had this happen to my trailer Friday. Cap for the hub must have gotten knocked off without my noticing. Towed my trailer 30 minutes to my parents house. Got out and see grease all over the trailer rim and I can tell the hub is shot. Quick trip to oreilly and changed the entire hub assembly as well as added bearing buddies to each. Will be getting another hub assembly setup to keep in the boat as a "Just in Case". Seems like boats/trailers are such money pits because you have to have an extra of everything you buy. Just gonna get in that habit from now on.

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
Went and ran the boat yesterday after replacing the shaft and prop. It ran quieter and better than it ever has. Looking back, I'm thinking that the old shaft might have had a slight bend or imperfection In It, and has ever since I bought it. Either that or this prop that I got from prodrive is better than the last two. Either way, I'm back in the game til next time.

 Re: Prodrive lower unit noise
I once ran a 20' Triton and had a spare tire holder that included a hub assy on the frame. If you are going to be dragging your toys up and down the highway, no matter how far, a spare hub is definitely a VERY GOOD IDEA! It saved my tournament a couple of times.
Did I see correctly on your last picture....a hex shaft instead of threads? Glad you got your rig back together. I know how anal I got when mine was down. Where did you get your shaft made and how bad did it set you back?
