Hey guys, I wanted to first and foremost say hello I'm from SETX. Just got my first mud motor and boat today and wanted to see y'alls opinions on it. It's a 23 hp Vanguard on a go-devil on a 1648. I got it on a buddy deal from the man who introduced me to duck hunting and would like to hear some opinions on the motor. i know GTR, Pro-Drive and Mud-Buddy, are the more popular but this was more in my budget so i jumped on it.

Welcome to mmt!
That's a good entry level rig and should do everything you need other than breaking any speed records!

I think everyone should own a long tail for a while. I liked mine.

 Re: Just Joined
Sounds like a solid setup. I ran a 20hp on a 1548 for a while, and smaller longtails before that before joining here... I've since moved to a bigger boat and surface drive to fit the needs of a growing family and more fishing interest.... Anyway, where'bouts in SETX are you? Where do you normally run?

 Re: Just Joined
welcome man.
GDs are a solid motor, just don't had all the bells and whistle like the others but those things make for more problems. those GDS are hard to kill.

Welcome aboard!
Like some of the above, my first experience with mud motors was with a long tail. My brother's 23 Vanguard Godevil on a 1432 jon boat. He still has it and use it often. I've since moved to a GT on a 1648 and love it. You're gonna love that long tail. It'll go anywhere within reason, and in some cases, where a SD may not.
