Post Gdsd bushing
Should I have to knock the hell out of my shaft to get it through the lower bushing? Or did I fuck up the bushing knocking it in?

Should slide through fairly easily Id think.... Try some emery cloth on it until the shaft moves easier. Once the shaft is home, does it turn ok?

Doesn't turn ok. Got everything hooked up and greased and it was spinning and the water in the old oil was steaming off. Hit the gas and it stopped my engine

You probably need to size the bushing to the shaft after installing. I haven't had my particular lower unit apart but on similar applications I've taken a small flapper wheel on a drill, spray it down with some WD40 and run it inside the bushing, check it often until you get it sized how you want.

How'd you install it? putting it in square with even pressure makes a world of difference.

I would imagine if anything you hurt the bushing. It's much softer than the shaft. Pull it down, get another bushing and give it another go. You could also get the measurement and order one from somewhere like motion industries. Get an oilite bushing if you can since they don't seem to distort so much on install. They're oil impregnated. I believe the GD bushing has a spiral groove that keeps grease going out instead of trash coming in with the pressure lube on the tube. Either way, an oilite bushing would be good right there.

Such a pain in the dick to pull the shaft. It's so got damn tight on there. I beat my old prop to death.

After you install a new bushing you have to ream it out to fit shaft. I bought the reamer from go devil.

I'm just relaying what they told me. I called about getting parts to have in case I needed them. I bought all the "specialty" tools, upper bearings, upper seals and 2 sets of lower seals, and the brass bushing. They said the brass bushing needed a threader and pull hammer to remove. Then once you install the new it would need to be reamed because it compresses when it is forced into the shaft housing.
I've got the 35 SD. I haven't replaced mine yet. No wobble in shaft but that's what they told me was needed when the time came.

Yeah. I'm not real comfortable with intricate mechanical work so I asked all the questions I thought of.
Good luck. Hope it works out for ya.

*UPDATE*
Reamed the bushing with a 7/8 forstner bit. Shaft slid right in. Hooked everything up.
Now my problem is that it seems like the upper jam nut is too close to the lower seal housing. The end of the shaft might be 1/16th of an inch past the end of the yoke in the joint. I guess I'll loosen it all back up and tap it back to assure clearance. I had an upper jam nut tighten onto the seal housing before and it was a disataster.

10-4... Just for reference. I did measure mine and it's dead on 3/16" gap.

Not sure which groove you're talking about... Here's another one I took last night. Blurry as hell but you get the point.
