Post 20 gauge
Fixing to buy a new shotgun and looking at my options..for sure getting a over & under, I like a challenge. Also considering maybe even going with a 20 gauge. Anyone hunt with a 20? Never hunted with one so not sure what I would be dealing with. Obviously there's less power but is there any problems nocking birds down at a reasonable range?

I like bringing the 20 out occasionally. Not gonna have issues knocking down birds unless you shouldn't have been shooting at them anyway.

I really like hunting dove, teal and woodies with a 20. They are typically a little lighter, shoulder and swing a little faster. When them birds are buzzin around like gnats, it helps a little  I grew up hunting ducks with a 20, killed plenty then too. I've got a women's/youth Rem 1100 20 that's a sweet little machine.

It is a joy using a 20, but you have to work within its limit. For over the decoys, both my BPS and Benelli Nova 20 are real good with 3" 7/8 oz. #2 or #4 shot (#3 would be choice if available), using an IC choke. Kills ringers and mottleds cleanly. If I know it will be windy I generally tote the 12.

I grew up shooting a youth model 870 20g. Always seemed to outshoot my brother and his buddies using 3" #4, but that could be more their fault than mine. It was a great little gun that I used to kill anything from teal to specks. Had I not outgrown it, it would still be my go to gun.

I use a 20ga O/U almost exclusively for upland birds. Sometimes I o to a 28a and then very late season or super windy days I'll use a 12 for pheasants.

Just bought a Beretta 300 in 20 gauge and a case of Heavy Metal #4's. I really want to shoot some ducks with the 20 this year!

I've always wanted to get a 20 gauge o/u to occasionally shoot ducks with just never got around to it. I can't make myself justify the price of one knowing i won't use it often..

I work the gun counter at academy..there's one right now on sale plus I got my discount on it so I can pick it up at a fair enough price to justify buying it to hunt freshwater ponds and what not. I had almost made up my mind on the 20 when I started looking at the shell availability..I know its not duck season yet but the only 20 gauge 2's I could find were like $20 a box, abd they were winchesters! Hell I bought 6 boxes of #6 shot the other day for like 30 bucks.

There's a beautiful browning citori white lightning sittin on the shelf but its a bit to pricey .. Lol

Don't get much better than Teal Season with a 20 O/U. Your limited on the shell selection but, for the most part your throwing steel @ the same velocity as a 12gauge just less steel. 3" #2's will smoke em but the pattern is a little small for my accuracy, I prefer 3" 4's.
I shoot a Ruger Red label O/U; it's a nice gun but I would recommend spending a little more $$ for the Beretta.

That's mainly why I want it. Teal season, pond hunting, and shooting wood ducks. The O/U just seems like more of a challenge only getting 2 shots, if your still shooting to nock one down on the third shot then their probably to far any way in my book. Its just so light and feels good shouldered up. I don't know . I might stick with a 12, I already have a case of 12 gauge #6 accumulated for teal season.

I love shooting my 20 & 16 for dove and teal. The shells are usually higher then 12 but just keep your eyes open and when you see a deal jump on it. I agree with the previous post, I don't go larger then #4s to compensate for a less dense pattern. I've seen plenty of cases where people can match shot for shot duck hunting with a 20, If your hitting them center pattern at a reasonable range it will knock em just as good as a 12.

Everyone keeps talking about the ducks being too far away.. Do yall not shoot 50-60 yard shots?? Those have become just every day shots where I hunt here lately.

I don't have a dog so I try to keep mine under 30 but will stretch shots on a leaving cripple. It's more of a challenge and rewarding to me doing your homework and working to get birds that close. I've patterned a few guns at 50yds after reading a lot of hype of 50-60 shots and watching the sky blasters on public land. Using a verity of chokes and shells I don't see how someone could make a consistent lethal pattern out that far.

I don't know I'm leaning more toward the 12 now. Get some low flying geese every now an then. Put a improved choke in the top barrel for when they are over the decoys and a full in the bottom for onced they flare off the first shots.

I noticed on the barrel it says 3" mag shells. On the inside you can see a grove where the shell looks like it goes into. Would it shoot 2 3/4" shells to? Thats all I got in #6 steel for teal season..

I think it would run them no problem. What brand and model?

Be sure your putting steel chokes in the gun. If they are stock lead chokes use Imp and Mod never full. Take the time to pattern the shells you plan to use. You may end up with a bum pattern out of a certain choke and be better off shooting the same choke for both barrels.

I've never had any 1st hand experience with those but a lot of people I shoot skeet with either shoot them or use to shoot them and I've heard very little negs about them. Great beginners O/U from what I'm told. The worst thing I hear is they kick a little more then other O/U's. I just text one of the guys he wasn't sure of the model but said it will run 2.75 & 3. I'll let you know what model he has once he lets me know.

Its a very good looking gun to. The only O/U's that they got right now at a reasonable price are the yildiz and stoger. The stoger is just brown and black and weighs a ton. The yildiz is light and has s real good shoulder and swing to it. Got the citori but they want a arm, a leg, and a testical for it...I can't spend that much on a gun to shoot ducks with.

I shoot a CZ o/u for trap and skeet. Seems like a good gun and has had 6 or 7 cases through it and holding up fine.

Just giving you options.

Picked it up today. Ended up getting the 12 anyways. They were the same price and I figured I already had a case of 12 ammo and I can shoot the same shells in any of my guns. I looked at them both really close and the 12 was just a hair heavier but not enough to make a difference. I'll take a pic later when I get home

Well here she is. Got the one with the ducks on it instead of the quail. Blued barrel and the reciver is aluminum I was told. Should be a fun gun. I'll have to take it out this weekend and shoot some clays and play with the choked and the barrels their in. It only comes with 5 so their gonna have to be miss matched.

It's fun going to those smaller gauges. I use a 16 A5 on dove and teal and picked up a 20 A5 this year. Can't wait to put it to use.

Jordan, let us know how you like that O/U.
