Post Opening Day!

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sexist "welcome" banners hung from off-campus houses at Ohio State University and Old Dominion University during move-in day have concerned officials and students.

The banners are down but the fraternity at Old Dominion, in Norfolk, Virginia, has been suspended.

"Dads, We'll Take it From Here" and "Daughter Day Care 2.0," were painted on sheets and hung outside a home rented by seven male OSU seniors on Saturday as underclassmen moved in, reported WCMH-TV in Columbus.

"Our motives were not to insult or look down on anyone, not to be sexist," Justin Miller, one of the seniors, told the station. "Our motive is just to have fun, it is college."

But some women did not see it that way, the station said.

"I thought they were a little patronizing!" said sophomore Sarah Liptow. "I do think it was all fun and games, but there is a fine line between joking and frightening some people."

The Sigma Nu chapter at Old Dominion was suspended and school officials are investigating banners hung outside an off-campus house, Brad Beacham, executive director of Sigma Nu's national chapter, said in a statement Monday on the ODU Facebook page.

The banners — reading "Rowdy And Fun! Hope your baby girl is ready for a good time," "Freshman daughter drop off" and "Go ahead and drop off mom too" — have been removed.

"The fraternity condemns the derogatory and demeaning language used on the banners," Beacham's statement says. Some chapter members may have been involved, he said.

Bowling Green State University officials in 2014 took measures against move-in signs. For more than 20 years, students and community members who live on Wooster Street had displayed messages such as "Daughter drop off," "We'll trade beers for girls," "Freshman boy drop off" and "Freshman girl training center," the BG News reported.

The Faculty Senate passed a resolution calling for the dean of students' office to "impose the appropriate sanctions against students found in violation of Student Code of Conduct regarding sexual harassment that creates a hostile environment."

When I was at LSU in the early 70's we were streaking naked all around campus. Literally thousands of totally naked students. There were plenty of freshmen girls who joined us. There was even a parade with banners and all. The parade marshals..,I was one of them...lined up the female students according to their breast sizes. Not kidding; that shit really happened,

Nobody got suspended or expelled. It was the time of free love and flower power. You young uns have no idea. We were revolutionaries of our time. Woodstock had set the bar for all of us.

Dang, thought I'd hear about the slaying of geese....University of Florida rush week was fun like Guidry said. I was impressed with those kegs in every room, that is about where my interests lay. Remember waking up with a redhead coed (no, not a duck) nestled next to me is some smokey frat room, oh man. dguidry, we had magic mushooms as well, talk about out of body experience!

No frat here however we did call our house 'The Beaver Trap' and for good reason. I went to college when beer cans had pull tabs. We made a tab chain that went round and round our living room. I remember my parents first visit. My mom was shocked, my dad was shocked and my brother said 'cool'.
Did not realize how cool I really was and how great I had it. Now I look back and wander how much more could I have done and I done my share.
College is where you can be crazy and nobody cares.

We have become a nation of pansies. I see nothing wrong with the signs. 20 years ago, everyone would have laughed it off as being funny. We have become overly sensitive.
