Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
Id rather pay $3.00/gal and have plenty of work...
Of course someone with their head planted in the sand would think that gas this cheap is a good thing...

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
I'm in a pretty stable part of the "oil field" in natural gas production, but our customers are oil and gas producers and when they don't make money, they don't spend money. They don't spend it with us, or anyone else. Our equipment is leased on contracts so it's not quite as subject to the whim of prices but it does show up, just takes longer. It shows up in the form of non renewal of existing contracts and the decline of new contracts... Different areas and fields will always have their own tempo and production characteristic but this is the broad brush stroke. It will come around again. But it would be faster and come back stronger if that big fancy house in Washington were paying for was occupied by someone other than the Socialist hood rat that's there now.

Thanks to the Iran deal we get cheap oil for now and a nuke dropped on our ass in 10 years. Our military is weakend and our missle defense systems are not getting upgraded and taken out of service.
Seems like a win-win to me

These shit oil prices are really putting a hurtin on us out here in the deepwater drilling.. We don't need oil to get way up there like it was, but need something to give!

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
Oil prices affect every other thing I buy. Not just gasoline. If it was a simple as me spending $3 a gallon, then fine, whatever it costs. But when the price of eggs, socks, etc are double what they cost 11 years ago because of fuel costs, then it's no longer about you keeping your job. It's now about how far my own dollar goes, and it's taken a significant hit. The problem is, even with oil costs low now, what I pay for everything else won't drop.

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
Whatever the cost, America and the world run on oil. We buy it cheap and we buy it high but we buy it. Diesel here is 2.12 a gallon and gas is 1.95. It will go back up so enjoy the cheap fuel while it's here. When it goes up we can complain about it being high. In the end, we still buy it no matter the cost. America runs on oil. Not alternative energy, oil.

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
I'm a truck driving instructor/ heavy equipment hauler. We here in middle america who burn 1000's of gallons of diesel, are happy with the lower fuel prices. Lower fuel prices mean more profit for the farmer. And more profit for the trucker. But grain prices correlate with gas prices because of ethanol. So for us there's definitely a happy medium

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
My company stands to save over 15K over last year if fuel stays at or around 2.50/gal. I'm tied to construction, which is interesting because a few short years ago a lot of underemployed construction workers left for the oil fields. Consumer spending usually rises with low fuel prices. I hate to see good hardworking people struggling and waiting for something they have no control over. I hope there's a happy medium to be found and energy independence from countries I wouldn't invite to a BBQ.

Gas was $1.23 a gallon on average in '96 and we were doing pretty good as a country

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
Why am I still paying fuel surcharges for everything now that oil is cheaper? Why haven't consumer prices come down on anything. Groceries are still sky high.

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
Inflation was also less during the 90's so you have to take that into consideration. The prices of everything else is going to stay the same because you have been paying it for so long the grocery stores know you will continue to pay it and they make increased profits since they get it cheaper. And oil this low is not good for the economy. There is a price/supply equilibrium that needs to be met and the economy will correct itself in other areas if the price stays below equilibrium. When its below you have above average unemployment and that is not good. There is too much of a supply of it in the world now. Barrel prices need to be raised, not to over 100 a barrel like they were but they do need to be higher than they are now to benefit everyone. If you still can't afford gas around the 2.50 a gallon mark you need to rethink your life decisions.

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
Once again, there is a difference between wanting to raise prices to equilibrium market prices and just wanting really high oil prices. Dairy farmers make whatever they make on milk and that price probably has slowly increased over time with everything else with no major price raises. So say we let Mexico and Canada start producing our milk along with us, then the market gets flooded and the supply get so big that the market for dairy collapses and goes to nothing. Now the price of milk is pennies and no dairy farmer can keep his job and thousands of dairy farmers lose their farms and houses and can't find a job so they come onto the internet and just wish for milk prices to be like they were when everything was at equilibrium. NOT that its 10 dollars for a gallon of milk so they have even more money. And then get told they are stupid and don't understand economics and that cheap is good by someone who apparently doesn't understand it either. Make sense?

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
Yes I understand that. The tech market has been flooded with extremely cheap processors and chips and things of the sort. Difference is they don't work quite as well and after a while the company gets a bad rep and people quit buying it and buy the better ones. Oil is oil no matter where you get it from. The quality of it is the same and it is the same exact substance no matter where you get it from so the market is a little more sensitive to a high supply of it. But to each his own, obviously neither of us are changing our minds on the subject. And I don't feel its cheap. I just spent 1600 on a mac..

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
i can understand why these oil field workers want the oil prices to rise. they riding around in 60k lifted trucks, 350-450k houses, toys out the wazoo. they need the work to support their expensive taste. use poorer people would like to get a break anyway we can. i work for a marine company that services the gulf coast and looks like these prices will be this low for a while.

Job security. Doesn't matter the lifestyle you live. It applies to any industry, not just oil...

Re: Incredible! Haven't seen this in a long time!
alot of the oilfield companys cut salary wages to keep employees working because when prices do go back up, the have the workforce. i see the inpact everyday and i hear people crying that their pay got cut and they cant afford stuff anymore and blah blah blah. this is people living beyond their means. see it every day. now im not saying this is the case for everyone.
