Now on to RangerP's pirogue build. I'll start a new thread for it.

Sell it to a tourist trap. It looks good but impracticable for use. Drafts too much

Might as well buy a canoe. If it ain't a round bottom then it's not a true pirogue

I'm saying that thing is too big and heavy. It looks nice don't get me wrong but impractical for a hunter now days when there's an option to go much lighter and maintenance free

Plus, there is always someghing cool about building it yourself. You get it exactly how you want and customize to our needs. Then step back and say, " Yeah, I did that", Vrs buying China carp and trashing it done after.

Some will never understand they skill and passion to do anything. Passion is a natural high. Makes all the shit problems in the world go away a few hours.

Nice work and enjoy two seater with family.

Thanks for the comments.

One more thing about the design criteria. I wanted to build the widest and longest pirogue out of a single 4 x 16 sheet of plywood and this was it. All cutouts had to nest properly on that single sheet so there would be no waste.

Regarding my typing: I belong to several French forums and alternate between English and French keyboards on my iPad so if you see accents on letters or words spelled kinda with a French twist to them, this is why.

You speak actual french or cajun french? And it looks good, but it does look like it drafts quite a bit. But I guess that's what you would want for two people shooting broadside. I definitely would not want to do that in a normal pirogue.

Secondary stability
Boats tendency to “push back” when leaned over, the resistance to tipping over. As the hull is leaned, it presents a different waterline profile and the area below the waterline likewise changes.

Designs with high secondary stability often end up having more hull area in the water when leaned countering the leaning effect. The differing shape can also help “carve a turn” when leaned over sideways.

As some may notice, it takes a pretty wide plank of lumber from which to cut out sides to conform to the design of this pirogue, probably 15" inches at least. That's why its so difficult to build one now a days out of cypress planks. You either compromise freeboard height or form (banana boat bottom) just to accomodate a 12" wide cypress plank. In the old days, one could get cypress planks wide enough to do this, but not today, unless you edge join two planks, like I did for my cypress skiff. I made 5 foot wide sheets out of 10" x 16' cypress planks. It much easier just to use marine plywood.

One could use this very same program to design and build a mudboat and get exactly the hull you want and not have to guess. Some of the more experienced mudboat bulders have already made all of their first build mistakes and have proven templates from which to work. Sometimes, though if one strays too for from a proven design things can get interesting expecially if you dont pre screen it with a cad program to see if the bends or curves will sit fair depending in material. With the more sophisticated software packages, stress points and bend anomalies will be disocovered that would not disclose themselves if the boat were built by guess until its too late.
