 Motor swap, first build!
Ok everyone I have a few simple questions that I am hoping you guys can answer for me. I just recently bought a long tail mud buddy frame ready to roll, just needs a motor. So after tons of research I went with the predator 22hp v twin. It seemed to be the best bang for the money. So my questions are, first off has anyone done a swap like this before on a mud buddy frame? Also , Jake from backwater told me I would have to shim the motor to raise it so that my universal would line up better, also is there a specific pitch I should go for as far as the universal to output shaft angle? Any help would be great. We are getting close!

 Re: Motor swap, first build!
If your shaft is 72" math told me that 13 degrees is the ticket. Alot of guys say 15 but at 72" 13 degrees puts the prop in the water more straight and the motor will ride about level with the shaft angle
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Also find out what kind of motor was on it before and look up the shaft height. The shaft height of the motor might be the same. Look in your predator owners manual and the shaft height is listed.

What engine was on the frame before? 23? You can figure out the shaft height once you know that and try to put a spacer or a plate to bring the predator shaft height to what the old one was. There have been a ton of threads with engine swaps with the predators. Here is a pretty recent one. It was a 16hp go devil frame fitted with the predator 22. Lots of good info a pics: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=62539

 Re: Motor swap, first build!
It appears that the shaft height is just over 6 inches per this spec sheet (if it was the same model): https://system.netsuite.com/core/media/ ... country=USI think the predators shaft height is around 5.25 FYI
