Post Anybody running a 9" prop on a 23 copperhead?
Fixing to pick up a 23 copperhead and was needing a 9" for legal reasons. Anybody using one or heard any info on how they run. I'm not asking for the same performance just something to get on plane with a light hunt load. As far as I know what's on it is a 10x8 or something like that from what I hear. I don't want one that's just wore down and over rev the engine

Needing to know if it's over revving the engine depending on the pitch?

How does it perform in your terrain?

Where to get one?

I plan on putting it on a 1/8 hull 1544 with a hunt deck running 2 people and a little gear.

I knew instagator made them. I got with him for a buddy of mine. I gave him his info for his gt but he still hasn't call him to get one. But he has a already payed one ticket for oversize prop.

I know they do well on the gt but was wondering if anybody had any experience with one on the copperhead.

Have you checked with any of the local prop shops to see if theyll trim and repitch/cup a 10" prop so it's legal?

Not yet. Ain't there one in bridge city?

I don't see many copperheads in our area so i really don't want to go to them completely blind on what I want. I know they have knowledge but I'm afraid that copperhead will not act the same as a gtr with a modified prop.

I have heard a rumor that a 9x9 will work. But nothing to back that up. Guess $250 I could find out. Rather not find out the hard way.

Carry it down to Coastal Propeller in Bridge City and talk with him about what you're after. Might take a little tweaking but if anyone around here can make that happen it would be him. Usually he's pretty fair on pricing too.

I think Phowler ran a 9" prop on a 23 Copperhead on a boat they built for Phil Robertson. Pretty sure they posted some numbers on a thread here somewhere.

I found this... Not sure what the stock prop on the 12 hp is but that's what they ran on the 23hp/18X48 combo. This is from muddoctor's post...

I have not run our 1848 Extreme with the 23 Copperhead, Phil was not concerned about speed or planing the boat for what he wants to use the boat for, but we wanted to see what it would do. Here are the results:

With the stock 23 prop:

One man 23 mph
Two Men 20 mph
Three Men 17 mph
Four Men 14 mph with motor struggling.

I was actually pleased, this is not a light hull, it is around 600 lbs as rigged.

We switched out the 23 Prop for the 12hp Copperhead Prop and tested again.
Results:

One Man 21 mph.
Two men 20 mph
Three men 20 mph
Four men 17 mph
Five men 14 mph.

This was all in deep water in the river outside Phil's house in wind and current.

I've done more looking on what the prop is and nothing. Closest I've found is the 23hp is like a 10.25x 8 and the 12hp is 10x8. That just doesn't sound right.

Thanks Johnny. I seen that post before and wish that would give a little detail. Its not like giving away a secret to another company. They could buy a prop and then pull measurements them selves.

Just don't think there is a lot of copperhead guys on here. They must be deep in the marsh.

There must be some guys on here running a 9" prop on a 25 or 27. I'm sure the numbers would be pretty similar.

Like SEtx said.... take your prop to coastal in BC. Tell him what you're running (boat and motor) and what you're trying to achieve. He will hook you up. The man knows his chit.

Watsons Propeller in Groves. Mike's a good guy I've just never had good luck with his prop work. Maybe just me.

Just take it to coastal .. Can cut balance recup and everything .. Be like brand new .. I had an jnstagator 9" for my 25 and it was very very unbalanced and looked like hammered dog mess .. Took to coastal which I know him well .. Repitched and balanced

My cousin took him an old copperhead but 18 prop and had him cut down to 9" as well

What kind of performance drop did your cousin see?

Zero as far as I've heard .. Couple mph and slower onto plane .. He has a small boat that's very light

I ran a 9" prop on a 12hp copperhead. Had Corey from Cottonmouth take a worn out copperhead prop, cupped the hell out of it with a ball ping happen and a trailer ball, and that thing ran faster than my stock prop. Only thing is it didn't carry a load as well. With a 2 guys, (200 a piece), and normal hunting load, it pushed that 1432 alumacraft 21-23.

This year, I just got my 1544 cottonmouth w/ 23 copperhead. I am actually going to try that 9" prop on it Monday. If it doesn't push it as fast as I want, I'll just cup it some more. I doubt I'll get the performance out of it like I did with my old rig, but I will let you know Monday.

Let me know! Sounds like our rigs are identical! What about it being unbalanced?
