 *FIRE SAFETY*
Fellas I come here with a heavy heart to preach to both young and old alike. Last night a friend of mine perished in a fire accident. He was in his camp with his girlfriend and went to bed around 9:00. By 10:30 he was gone. The developing story is that they had both woke up on fire and ran for the door, his girlfriend was able to make it out jump into to river to extinguish the flame and then climb ashore. When she got out he was nowhere to be found. She had to hysterically drive 10 minutes to the next camp soaking wet 20 degree temps in only what she had wore to bed without a light. It seems physically she'll probably be ok, but the worst pain is still to come in getting through this.
State Fire Marshals seem to think the fire started near the wood heater but the actual cause is unknown. I'm not going to try to speculate on here what happened but after sifting trough ashes most of the day I come here to preach fire safety. I don't want this to happen to anyone else, get smoke alarms for any and all places you reside (even the dog house if the wife makes you sleep there). He was normally a well thorough guy in that he kept all his affairs in order and tried to be prepared. While going through the charred remains of the structure I noticed a fire extinguisher, He thought ahead in getting an extinguisher, but not far enough to get fire alarms. A simple $20 piece of plastic could have saved his life. Now the only thing left of him is some bones as everything else of him was burnt.
Save yourself, family, and friends by taking the time to prepare for a fire.

 Re: *FIRE SAFETY*
Saw this on the news last night. Very sad and tragic. Some camps I've slept in in my life time were fire traps, I'm certain. One in particular had and still has a big pot bellied wood stove that shoots embers out of the exhaust conduit like fourth of July fireworks.
Sorry you lost your podnah. I'm gonna install fire alarms this weekend in my camp.

 Re: *FIRE SAFETY*
Hate to hear this man. Praying for yall. We have a old wood burning stove in our camp.. We have a fire extinguisher but def need to get a smoke alarm, but i am curious as to if it would go off prematurely bc some smoke does usually get inside during normal opporation. Guess i need to do some research. Where is this at btw? Kinda looks familiar

 Re: *FIRE SAFETY*
sorry for your friend and his loved ones. Things like this are always a blow. How many people here preach to have all the fire equipment needed, like alarms and extinguishers. how many people preach to wear their life jackets and kill switches, to not drink and drive on the water. How many times, yet we have to read it all the time.
