 New Prop- Lost Speed
Got 2012 gator tail stage I mods. With my old prop I was getting 4100 , 4200 RPMs and 29 to 30 mph without a load. With a load I was getting 25 mph. I got a new two blade prop from gator tail to replace my old one, now I only get 25 miles an hour 3800 RPMs without a load. 21 miles an hour with a load. Anybody got any suggestions?

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
make sure its the same pitch as the old one first but its probably new and has more material on it causing the engine to work a little harder when it wears some it will get faster.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
I am not the sharpest tool in the drawer so let me get this right.I bought a new prop shipped to Florida cost me $277.And the last set of mods I got all my motor cost me $1500.My old prop was war out Used it for three hunting seasons. So now I buy a brand-new prop, and I've lost 4 miles an hour and I have to wait to the new prop wears down so my motor will run correctly with the mods that I paid extra for? Does that about sum it all up????

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
That prop is not the fastest prop...It carries a load well though... It may need a little work, but you should be getting better speeds and RPM..
Not sure what you mean by stg1 mods....That can vary quite a bit...

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
have you put your old prop back on and run it to make sure its the new prop causing this speed loss?

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
Mucknaked has a mikuni, calen worked heads, and mm exhaust.
I got a 3 blade prop from Gatortail for my 2011 GTR stock except for mm exhaust. I like the 2 blade powertech MUCH better. Much better performance. The 3 blade did not reduce any of the vibration that I can tell. I called powertech and they do not sell that prop anymore I guess.

I am going to have him put my new 3 blade on his rig to see how it runs.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
First off witch 2 blade do you have from gator tail cause theirs 2 and second off power tech doesn't make gator tails props any more Mercury does

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
Something doesn't make sense. Sounds like the new prop has more pitch, cup or both. I would expect some RPM drop with a new prop but the drop seems too big just going with a new prop of the same spec's

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
Sounds like he got the new Gatortail version of the Hammer prop.
I dropped RPM and speed, but not that drastic of a drop. I like mine for load carrying. (I also am running a stage 1)

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
yea thats what im thinking. that prop is a lil slower than the original 2 blade, but you shouldnt loose 5 mph. i would look into other issues like valves

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
I doubt it is valves being the problem overnight. Ran great with old powertech the day before and is a dog with the new prop the next day. Maybe he needs to have it repitched, polished, and balanced?

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
Mines was balanced perfectly...I had to add pitch, and still can turn it 4750
I'm pretty sure they put them on stock engines, with that said a modded engine shouldn't have any issues in turning it.
Maybe have it measured and see if anything may be wrong pitch wise.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
i been running that prop since teal season and i have the same problems cant trim it out and see what it really has with out hitting the limiter till i put 4 people in my boat and im still right their almost on it. but i love how the prop stays balanced and theirs no vibration no matter what you put it through. it will defiantly be my hunting season prop for now on.
do you have the old gear? maybe thats the reason.

Why would a stock prop have different pitch. I could see an aftermarket.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
I've read thru this thread twice as I haven't seen anywhere just exactly which prop you have. You need to measure it from tip to tip and somewhere on the hub is going to be either a stamp or etching that indicates what the pitch is. If this new prop is wider from tip to tip and has a deeper pitch (say 11 or 12), then that would begin to explain what's happenjng. I would suggest taking it to a prop shop and have the pitch verified.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
What mods exactly? I say it needs a leak down test, bad valves and couldn't tell it with the worn prop but now you have "grip" but not the power to turn it.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
I know it has a set of calen heads, mikuni, mm exhaust. Sid Thysen (Fast duck Mudmotors) went through the engine when he put a new case gasket on about 5 months ago.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
I just received a new 3 blade propeller to put on the GTR37EFI and took it out last night for a ride. My RPM's dropped to around 3800 and speeds reduced by solid 2 MPH to 25-26 from the previous 4100RPM @ 27-28. I was lightly loaded in this case last night. This new 3 blade from Gator tail is a 10.5 pitch.
I moved my pin adjustment to the top hole this morning and will retest this week and update.

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
The stock 37EFI I rode in turned the 10.5 pitch easily 4,400 rpm!!
Not sure how a prop can vary that much!

 Re: New Prop- Lost Speed
Looks like he might have it on a very sizeable boat.
The 3 blade just doesn't carry a load as well as a 2blade. He might be better off with a 2blade..

With heads, carb, exhaust .you boat runs good with a 3 blade. Without mods it was a dog. I am going to get a MB Big Blade.

The big blade is a good prop...Should raise the RPM quite a bit over the 3 blade...
