My last boat I ordered from Kent at GT. The dealer near me that I spoke to after I ordered it told me he can sell it for the same price I paid direct through GT. Anyone have any idea how that works? Keep thinking that I left money on the table. What does GT pay the dealer to sell his boat?

If anything, you're more likely to get a better deal at a dealer. Most manufactures, if they're smart anyway, won't undercut their dealer network. Full retail to buy direct, little wiggle possible at the dealer...especially on something that's been sitting on the lot for a little while.

You can get the same price from a dealer as at the manufacture. However, do research on the dealer. Some of them suck. I did my business with coco at go devil and now KP and Brian at prodrive. They both have dealers next to me but I just don't feel comfortable with them. Some dealers like Boat Doctor or Great to work with. Others are terrible. Just do your research first.

Msrp will be the same, But then with a dealer you will more than likely have a shipping cost associated with the unit, Unless a deal is worked out with a dealer. As for getting a better MSRP direct it probably wont happen. Service after the sale plays a big part. Deal with who you are comfortable with.

Wondering what profit a manufacturer makes on a boat. I just dropped 12,000 on the boat alone. I can't decide whether I should take a BC powder or Prep H for the f*cking I got. It's a great boat and exactly what I wanted but I just can't help but think about this stuff.

Not as much as most people think. You have to buy raw materials, Pay utilities, pay employees, pay insurance, pay the tooling and machinery to manufacture the product, and pay for the non maufacutred parts that will also be a part of the unit.

I understand the overhead is a factor. The GT plant was pretty impressive and they have lots of people and stuff. On a 12,000 boat they have to making a decent percent of profit.

I've went directly through gt on both boats I've owned. But I had something specific in each situation I wanted and didn't mind waiting for it to be built. I do think warranty issues would be easier going through gt. That is unless you are far away (I'm 4+ hrs away).

Just on the boat. It was tricked out pretty well. If I remember correctly, the options were almost as much as the hull. In the beginning I thought it would be cheap but after I went through the options with Kent, it really added up. I'm happy with the boat...couldn't be happier, just wondered how much profit they made on the deal. The entire process was great, GT folks were fantastic to work with and there were no surprises.
After you add the motor and trailer there's another 12,000 out the door.
Whoever said "you gotta pay to play" was telling the truth.

I wouldn't be playing if it cost 24k to play. Honestly the money has to be made in upgrades I would imagine. Them manufacturing a loaded boat can't take that much more "time" then bare bones boat.

Lights is about all a hunting boat needs. To think of the add on options I wasted money on when I bought my boat. Did I need that seat base, did I need this camo gas tank cover, is this boat blind worth the head ache and do I kill more birds because of it? Nope, just money they took from me. If I buy another mud boat which ain't for years. It would be rigged and have a head light and that's it.

Only options necessary in my opinion is maybe tall transom and maybe a hunt deck and obviously want it water ready and with a bilge.

They don't make the profit you think, it is not even close. The equipment, facility, insurance and utilities kill them dudes. When it is all said and done, I bet they profit between 4% and 10% of what they sell.

Thanks to folks who buy new boats! I'll sacrifice a few little things to save thousands on a boat/motor/trailer that somebody has put 75 hours on.

I'm loving the boat. It just doesn't look like what it cost. I'm sure I will want an upgrade in a few years. Just got to fight it til then. After I got mine I saw so many boats that I wished I bought. Such is life I guess.

I kinda went in the middle. I got a new boat built the way I wanted and got the builder (prodigy)to do the stuff I couldn't (welding). Then I did all the rigging like lights, battery's, bilge, radio,ect. Next I purchased an older stock GTR and modded myself(with MMT help) . I saved all of my receipts and at the end I figured I spent 8k less than I would have if I had just ordered everything new and let them do all of it. But I do have an 09 motor on a 14 boat.

Yes and now I wish I had gone with a custom Louisiana builder. Would have gotten a boat exactly how I wanted it and probably cheaper too. The Gtrax is great but it seems I live and learn.
Education certainly is expensive.

I have about half the money in my rig that my buddy has tied up in his factory pd rig.
Piecing together a boat motor and trailer and rigging it yourself saves big
