Post Custom Skiffs for sale
Ive been looking for a new/used hull for quite some time and came across a fab guy out of Morgan City area. His name is Scott Scully?? I think? Anyone seen his handywork? Looks pretty good from the pics and very reasonable prices. Any feedback is good feedback, not too knowledgeable about all these custom boats??? Thanks a lot. Considering a bateau also.

If you know what you want, and they will build it how you want it, you should be fine. Got a gus named Steve Skully building some skiffs for a good price. I emailed him and got a quote for a boat how I want it, and he was a little cheaper than some other builders, but not much. May want to check a bunch of well known builders for prices before you determine that one is much cheaper than what bobs cousins bill's wifes brothers friend paid for his skiff.

Remember also, that aluminum prices fluctuate, if a builder is busy, he may have bought a lot of aluminum while prices were on the rise to avoid getting too expensive, and is now stuck with aluminum that was bought high before it dropped again, therefore needing to recoop some cost.

Scully makes some nice looking boats. I would go see some of his work. If the welding looks good and the boats do too buy one! ;)

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. The guys name is Steve Scully, I thought he was with Scully's Alum & Fab but I guess not. Since I don't know anyone who has dealt with him I think I'm gonna pass for now. Anyone recommend any tried and true custom boat builders that can keep the price reasonable? I appreciate it again guys

Post Re: Custom Skiffs for sale
I called Steve Scully last night to ask him a couple questions about his boats, just out of curiosity. He seemed like a fairly knowledgeable guy, but ya'll just make sure you know what you're getting when you call him, or any other custom boat builder like that. The price he quoted me was pretty good at first... but then I started asking questions, and I figured out he was quoting me a boat with only 4 runners in a 48" wide bottom, and the price didn't include a floor, just open runners. By the time I added the proper bracing and a false floor, the price jumped up to over $4000 for a 16x48 skiff. So the moral of the story... he's probably a pretty decent builder, but if you don't know that much about boats, and don't know what to request, maybe it's smarter to buy one from ProDrive, GatorTail, Godevil, etc., because you know it's going to be built right and you won't have to worry about it.

Actually , they are called water wings.. Shrimpers and crabbers have been using they for years..And yes they help pick the boat up with heavier loads.

Check out Casey St. Romain at Sportsmans Fabrications in Morgan City.

He built my Bateau, and it is built like a tank. And the price was the best around.
