in my humble opinion, anything over 48" wide might be a little much for a 27, but I've never owned one that wide, so I couldn't say for sure. I'm running a 17x48 with 27PD and I"m really happy with it. I guess you should hang your motor on one and try it! tell us how it does.

Post Re: 1752 Phowler
We have run a number of Phowler 52s with 27 PDs. An 1848 is the best overall performer with a 27, but with two pretty good size guys and fishing gear our 1652 ran right at 21 mph in open water on the Mississippi. Three guys was down to 18-19, but on plane. A 1752 should be pretty close, maybe a little easier to plan with more weight. We did a charity thing a few years back and ran one of our 1752 prototype V bows with a stock 27 PD on the back as a catch boat, it ran good with two-three average size guys (175 or so)and no gear, right around 21, we added another guy and it still planed and went 17-18, added one more and it was trying to get up, maybe 15 mph or so. We also have one customer running a 1660 with a 27 PD, he runs 21-23 alone, 20-21 with two and 19 with three, but anymore then that and the boat will not plane, runs 12 mph with three big folks and all the hunting gear etc. The 27 PD is a two-three man motor on a well matched rig with gear as far as planning goes.

Hope this helps,

PW

as another frame of reference, my 17x48 when new, would do 26 with just me, 24 with another person and an icechest.
