 Re: World War II
The greatest generation that ever lived. There are fewer and fewer left every day. Three out of my 4 grandparents were active in the South Pacific theatres. One of them missed being at Pearl Harbor during the air attack by less than 24hrs. I've been fortunate to grow up hearing these stories straight from the ones who were there. That's when men were men. If you ever find yourself in Hawaii and don't take the time to make it out to Pearl Harbor, shame on you. It's a special place in world history, something that everyone should experience.

 Re: World War II
Same here, both grandfathers .my mothers father was a marine I. The island hopping campaign in the pacific. My dad's father was army air corps, in bombers from England to Germany . I agree our greatest generation. To have lived thru the Great Depression and WWII . To then build the America of the 50's thru 80's . Quite a feat.

That work ethic and reliance on self is much harder to find now. They developed it from hard times and experience. Can never thank them enough for what they did and what they taught me.

 Re: World War II
Had a customer in Norco about a month ago who stormed Normandy and made the march to Berlin. He is 96 years old, I cut his bill in half and still feel sleezy for taking a dime from this guy. Said he was on one of the later landings/waves. Said guys on first couple stood no chance and luck of draw he was able to survive.

 Re: World War II
My grand father was one of the guys ferrying the troops back and forth to the beach on D-day. This man is still my hero one of the toughest men I've had the privilege to know. He told me the story about D day once and he said that was the only time in is life he was truly scared for his company and himself. I still get the chills when I think think about hearing taps and his burial. He was truly a hero till his last breath.
