Post Boat builders/ aluminum welders. Welder reviews
Hey, tried searching couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. I'm wanting to buy a unit preferable new unless I find a heck of a deal. 220v mig machine. i want it mostly for welding aluminum so I'm needing it to be spool gun compatible, but also have a regular lead so if need to weld steel with it I can swap them out. I have a 220v 250 rod welder and a 140 mig( that's pretty much useless). So this is more than likely will be aluminum only. Here's what I've come up with. Miller 211 is what I'm leaning to, then Hobart 210 (price point only) looked at a couple Lincolns online but no dealer that I know of around here. Is the 211 a good trust worthy unit I can expect many years out of for a hobby welder. I haven't used either machine due to not knowing anyone that has either. I'm tired of having to ask and bum other people's stuff on there time to fix my boats and aluminum projects. Any of you guys have a review on either or a recommendation. I don't want a 110 unit or a -200 amp one I might grow out of later on. I plan to work on my boats mostly so there's not a better place to ask this question online. Thx

i built several boats with a miller 211 and a spoolmate 100, its a descent machine but not something i would want to keep welding aluminum with. you wont be able to use 5356 wire with it either because it doesnt have enough wire speed to keep up, it will run 4043 really well. little bit of welding on your own stuff would probably work fine.

I grew out of my 211 real quick...

Your pretty limited at 1500, you may be able to find a 212 close to that...and if you spend a bit more the 252's have 200 rebates on them through september

Lincoln makes a 210mp you can get with a spool gun for around 1400. Pretty good machine from what I hear. I've never ran it with a spool gun though so might want to look up some reviews.

I have the old Miller 210 with the 3035 spoolgun which if I remember was replaced with this one. Or save a little more and get the MM252

What all should I look for in a used machine. I found a decent deal on a 252 and a gun to match. But the unit is 6 yrs old, I don't know the guy who has it, or how much the machines been used. I've never bought a used welder. I don't buy used equipment usually. What are things to check for if I decide to go look. I've also put together a couple of packages like a 212 and a 200spoolmatic or 252 with either a 200 or a 30a. I can pay 12 months no interest on. What do yall think? I can afford it but who wants to spend extra money without considering used stuff. I'm leaning away from the 211 at the moment Due to not wanting to out grow a machine.

The 252 is a sweet ass machine. I have the older MM210 which is basically the 212 now. My machine is approx. 16 years old and welds like day one. And I do a lot with it building iron fences and gates as a hobby. Built several boats as well with my 3035 spoolgun. The only thing that has gone bad on my machine was a $150 relay. the machine still welded flawless, but the wire was always hot. That relay fixed it. Still use it today.

I have the same machine as banded and we use it on a daily basis and have since it was new.

If your not going to use it all the time, a used machine would last you for a long time.

Do yall know if there is a spool gun that plugs into a miller 250x that works without additionally wiring and stuff. The 252 was not a 252 it was a older 250x. I've been reading online and can't find much mostly that a spool gun requires extra wiring to work with the 250x?

We had to get a high freq box with a 10 pin connector to hook the 30a spoolgun to our MM 200.

Does it have a plug in anywhere on the machine?

Not by the pictures he sent. It Has a 4 pin he says. I was getting ready to drive 2hrs when he finally sent me pics. I think he's full of it. Said he welds aluminum all the time with it with no gun. I've tried that with no success.

just my .02, but if you want to buy a welding machine that you will be welding things to make money or welding things that you want to stick together, quit being a tightazz and go buy a new machine. that way you know what u got and u aren't buying some other guys nightmare.
if you can sell a few welding jobs it will pay for itself and you will be much happier in the end.

Miller 252 is a nice machine. steel or alum.

good luck with whatever you choose!!!!!
