Re: About to Get Outside the Box
Prop on the left....13" diameter splined Gen III hub.
Prop on the right....11" threaded/tapered bushing Gen II hub.
Going to attempt to make the Gen III fit a Gen II.
From there...I have plenty of prop to work with on another design altogether....contemplating ultimately ending up with a 3 blade Cleaver with maybe a 12" diameter.
Ultimately, probably a costly experiment.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say blue is gonna try that gen 3 prop on his gen2. And the smaller one looks like a gdsd 3 blade. I forsee some rebroaching fixina happen

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
Troy, I haven't pulled mine before, but is it possible to take a gen 3 lower, remove the shaft and gear and swap it to a gen 2 lower? Thus keeping the splined shaft. The gearing would be different. But the second question would be could the bevel gear be removed from one and placed on the other? Thus giving you a gen 2 lower with a splined shaft rather than a threaded shaft.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
Because if that is possible, I would love to see a 3 blade 13" run on my Kawi with all that torque. Hell I'm running a 14P now at 4900-4950

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
I don't know if the shaft diameters/length are the same throughout the length of the shaft and where they press into the gears. I screwed up and eventually threw my sheared shaft away. Wish I would have kept it in hindsight. I would give it to a machine shop and tell them make me one with hex flats on the end so I could play with and change out MB and GT props. I think the beveled gears and bearings are press fit.

About to Get Outside the Box
I've even given thought to weld overlay my threads and machine hex flats onto it....but, that would probably turn out bad. LOL
I'll just add.....threaded props are the devil!

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
I'm all in on this one. Very interested in what you come up with.
Hhmmmm, that splined 13p prop with some 7/8" threads... Oh the possibilities!

I was under the impression all these lawnmower boat motor mud prop things turned the same direction.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
I like the way you are thinking Blue that would open up lots of things for the guy with the gen II threaded shafts. I'm going to stay tuned for sure.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
There's an old Evinrude left hand prop that's the same spline. Still don't know why someone hasn't tried one for running open water

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
I'm still wondering if someone has tried to remove the gear off the shaft yet. Zimmer gear here in Baton Rouge prob has em or can get em. This would allow for ratio changes as well as prop changes.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
I think I know why PD went 2:1 instead of something inbetween...your motor needs some gearing or some huevos to turn an additional 2 pounds of weight!

Wow. I knew there had to be a difference. Didn't expect it to be that much.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
I wonder how much weight difference there is between a power tech vs big blade vs hammer.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
Ran a few beads over the splines using SMAW and 316L filler. Ran wide weave beads starting as far as I could get the rod into the opening and worked the rod out. Ran a pass around the circumference of the opening, over the ends of each pass to clean it up and get above the back side.
Next up...drill, tap and machine.

Re: About to Get Outside the Box
, yep. me too. It a shame to say that the aftermarket clutch I bought several months back, is still sitting on my shelf. My boat prob has wasp nest the size of oranges in it. between work and my oldest with showcase baseball, I haven't had a chance to install it.
