Post Collection keeps growing
Picked this beauty up today for $200. Went into a little gun store by my house to buy some bullets for my AR, when I saw this thing hanging on the wall with that price tag it was hard to say no. Probably the cheepest/coolest gun I've bought so far. 1942 Mosin Nagant. I know they can be had for cheeper but not enough for me to justify passing this one when its still in great shape with the original wood.

That's actually quite a nice looking one.
Never thought I'd say that about a Mosin but yeah I like that one.

Is is Russian or a Finish?
Cant tell if the reciver is round or hexagonal

Its round. However it is still stamped Russian with the importer stamp right behind it. That being said though I'm not sure what markings mean what. I post a pic of it later and maybe someone who knows that stuff can help out

What gun store?

I've got a few things from Marburger's in Seabrook and I've been in Magnum Firearms in Baytown on Main. Magnum was a cool place, but priced high.

I've seen the place. Looks real nice from the outside. It's typically closed or I'm too tired to stop by.

Oh that sucks they blaze importers info down the side of the breach.
Definitely a Russian stamped gun.

The pattern was sold and made by a number of countrys throughout Europe from well before WW2.
By most accounts they are the most manufacturered gun ever, and still out number anything built to date.

I'm looking for the just the right one to add to my safe.
We can get brand new 40s stamped unissued guns with bayonet and service kit for quite cheap but I'm wanting an early non Russian example.

They had a really nice one for around 350 with the hex receiver and really nice light colored wood. I gonna try and snag it sooner or later just to keep original and put up, because I shot mine yesterday afternoon and it kicks like a mofo. I only got about 5 shots out of it before my shoulder was done, after that I had to shoot with a sandbag between me and it lol. So I'm probably gonna grab another one when I can and keep one original and do a stock swap on the other so it might actually be enjoyable to shoot.

$200 is about normal for them nowadays. Hard to believe to they use to be well below $100 at one time. I think I paid $65 for mine about 10-12 years ago.

buddy of mine used to hunt with one about 25 years ago. We called him "tree slayer" ! He could never hit the deer but would cut down trees on either side of it. cool old gun though
